When you walk up to the post office counter, hand over your paperwork for a new 12 month tax disk...wait.... and walk away with a smile on your face in the knowledge that you haven' t had to pay ANYTHING!! ;D

The tax thing as above ,and cheap insurance! Oh ,and in my case ,not having to bother about where I park ,getting it scratched etc.

Pi55ing off everyone behind you in the queue in the local post office by deliberately saying... how much do I owe you? when they hand you the tax disc over the counter..... and the guy/woman says..... Nothing cos it's a 'historic vehicle'! Then turn around to face the queue holding the tax disc aloft like an olympic gold medal in the one hand and punch the air with the other and shout....... yeeeeaaaahhhhhh!! ;D ;D

getting the confused look on the cashiers face when taxing a tax-exempt vechile & she asks 'would you like 6 or 12 months?'

Also when in a convoy with the above mentioned Perkins Range Rover & its failure to start, the utter bemused look on the face of my friends when i reach into my Land Rover, grab a hammer, and preceed to thwack the Perkins.

You jump into it after it doing less than 300 miles in the last 4 years and drive the nuts of it for 700 miles and it dosn't break down!
and it does more mpg than the hilux!!

if i could get free tax i would get the 6 months, if you can, just so i could do it twice a year ;D
retro ownership is worth it when everybody you know drives modern-ish cars, hates them, but loves yours cos its old, even though we all know its curse word ;D

My 2 door Range Rover (V8 / carb, rubber mats instead of carpet etc early base model spec) is registered in Feb '73 but I had a massive grin on my face when I got a dating letter proving it was actually made on 11/12/72 and DVLA confirmed tax exempt Paul H |
