The best way of getting 4x114.3PCD wheels on my 4x108 car continues….. Redrilling the hubs is a pain - it means taking the car off the road, I’m not sure if the hubs are thick enough to be tapped for wheel bolts or if they need studs, and I don’t know if the machine shop can put in the splines… Option number B is to get the wheels drilled. On the rear face of the wheel there’s enough metal, it’s not webbed or anything. But is there a fiendish way of plugging the old holes? I can paint the wheels, but what do I fill the holes with so they don’t fall out and look invisible from the outside? Anyone done this? It’s Lotus Elite / Eclat wheels on Ford hubs BTW

They had an article on this in ppc a few months back, they machined up some aly slugs, glued em in, peaned the end over with a big hammer and machined flat, worked really well in the pics. They might have put it on their website, ppcmag.com or .co.uk I think.

or you could use alloy cylinders with a bevel on the end - fill the bevel with alloy weld (tig I guess) then get the face of the wheel milled flat again?

I have seen pictures of a 114.3 PCD wheel on a 100 PCD car.
IIRC they bored the holes out and put offset drilled alooy bushes in them.

Lotus rims would need the front faces machining anyway because they have a raised lip/face around each bolt hole. A good machining shop should be able to tig some ally plugs into the existing holes then redrill between them to give you 4x108...then machine the whole face to make everything flush & smooth. It's not the best shot, but the wheels on the right (the slightly deeper ones) have been plugged and redrilled and the faces machined. This was how I bought them and you cannot tell where the original holes were. I've got at least three sets of wheels that I need to get plugged and redrilled at some point so I will be on the look-out for a good machining place around Bristol. Will see if they might do a discount if I get all the wheels done at once!

why not have the existing holes machined to the required pcd but with larger holes and use sleeve bolts/nuts ? ttfn glenn

That’s the same kind of fiendish idea, I could be coming around to it because then hiding 4 holes isn’t so difficult. Have a looky where the wheel nut is not fitted - you can see the lip which is proud of the face of the wheel. These would need to be flattened in order to do what you are thinking. A large lathe is the best option for removing this...and if you're going that far, you might as well have the wheels plugged & redrilled beforehand. There is 'doing a job', and then there is doing a job properly ;D
