Additional Information:
Toyota MR2 Mk1a, Manual transmission, 1985 C-reg, in Toyota Super Red. Has original red & black cloth seats. This car has the Mk1b side skirts fitted (believed to be from the factory) but retains the smaller Mk1a front spoiler/splitter. It also has a later Mk1b rear bumper fitted, but they are identical other than the white stripe. The previous owner fitted a new windscreen which is still perfect. It has the original Toyota toolkit and jack.
Service History:
I have most of the history for this car, I am the fourth owner. The first owner had it serviced regularly at a Toyota dealership; I have the original service book with loads of stamps in it as well as original purchase order and original extended warranty form. He owned it up until about 40k, which was sometime in the mid-late 90s. I have every single MOT since new apart from a few (will check exactly when I get back). The story goes is that the original owner sold it to a bloke who wanted to do a Mk1.5 conversion (Mk2 Turbo engine) who did all the modifications. He then found one already converted, so sold this one on to the third owner, who had it for a year or so until I bought it last May. I’ve been using it as my daily commute driver and I love it, but need to sell/swap it for something with a bit of space to get my DH bike and snowboard in lol.
Modifications:
Janspeed back box
K&N Air Filter
Direct Throttle linkage
Short Shift kit with alu knob
Engine Lid Strut
Mk1b Radiator Cover
Toyota OEM Mk1b Front Strut Brace (bought new)
16” Compomotive MOs with locking nuts and good tyres
Koni Adjustable Inserts all round, with key
-40mm Lowering springs
Celica ST165 4-pot front brake callipers running standard 258mm Mk1b vented discs
EBC discs on the rear, fast road pads all round
Polybushed (ARB mounts and trailing arms, possibly others not checked)
Toad Ai606 Thatcham Cat 1 alarm with 2 fobs
Raybrigg headlight conversion (v.bright)
Aftermarket steering wheel, CD/Radio player
I also have a full set (4) of the original Mk1a slot alloys, with tyres, which are very rare.
Work Done In Last Year:
New clutch
Front ARB drop-links (common problem)
New battery (3yr warranty)
Recon Alternator
Recon handbrake/rear calliper
Toyota OEM Accelerator Cable (£130!!!)
Electrical service
Recon windscreen surrounds (not fitted in these photos)
Resprayed all faded black trim in satin black (apart from door handles!)
New rear indicator bulbs
Bad Bits:
The car is 25yrs old and as such the paintwork is not great, it does polish up nicely as you can see from the photos but get up close and you can see a few little nicks/scratches etc. Also, this winter was not particularly kind to the car, and as such has a few rust spots, although the car was absolutely mint in terms of rust when I bought it I must point out!! Nearside rear arch had been poorly repaired (with chicken wire n filler!) right at the bottom, so I have dug that out and replaced with fibreglass/resin as a temp fix, the other side is just starting to bubble ever so slightly but is fine, so these will need doing at some point but will prob be ok for another yr or two. Front arches are mint. There are two small holes on the inside of the drivers door at the bottom of the B-pillar - this area was perfect when I bought the car but after winter the two holes appeared, they've been treated and untouched since - been assured no issue for MOT was gonna sort them in the summer.
There are also a few small rust spots on the passenger side roof, and a small one on the leading edge of the windscreen, all of which have been treated and touched up. There is a small area of lacquer peeling from the passenger door above the handle. There are a couple of small areas of white ‘fade’ on the rear spoiler, but hardly noticeable.
The stereo has never fitted properly and I’ve been unable to get a replacement cage, so it currently sits at an ever-so-slight jaunty angle, never bothered me tho lol. As it is a Mk1a, there is a sub-box under the drivers seat, which currently isn’t wired up as the previous owner had a boom-box in the froot, the wiring is still there tho. Also has some aftermarket speakers in the front which have been fine for me!
There is an approx. 3” tear in the vinyl door trim, drivers side, right by the window, plus a small nick in the centre console.
The sunroof screen is missing (only found out they had one a month or so back!) but the sunroof is tinted to not a problem.
The drivers side electric window only goes down ½ way, I have been told this is due to some teeth on the motor cog breaking off, I am including a full working motor unit and relay unit – I just haven’t gotten round to fitting it yet.
Sounds like a lot but they’re all minor bits and bobs, just trying to be honest. Any questions please ask! The car cost me £1500 last year and I’ve spent a fair bit on it since, so I think £1500 is a fair price for this rare Mk1a, if it doesn’t sell for around that then I’ll keep it for another year or so and buy a roof rack lol. It’s great to drive and I love it to bits, just need something a little more practical space-wise. The car currently has MOT and TAX until the end of May so the price is negotiable as it is but I really don’t see it needing anything for the next MOT as I’ve sorted bits as soon as they’ve happened. I was planning on getting it MOT’d before sale, so I’m just advertising to gauge interest at the moment as I know sales can take a while! I am up for a trade, consider most things as long as it has a bit of space (like a small hatch will do me!) – not really after a massive motor or estate, and nothing that will be silly to insure or run as I need a daily driver.
