right, this is floating on a few forums but i thought i would bring it across to here as well as I'm sure its something that will float a few peoples boats. if not for the car content then just for the designing/fabrication or the shear stupidity of the whole thing.
well long story short, me and another guy with engine converted kas in the owners club were joking about building a drag ka after the trax show in the summer, one thing led to another and joking turned into planning and then we ended up with this: a 1972 reliant scimitar, mostly curse word, it had been sat in a damp barn for 9 years, no fluids and never been moved. basket case dosent begin to get there.
the only good bit of it was it came with a separate chassis.
We then bought a Ka for the donor shell
.. then set about stripping it
and cutting it to pieces
We kept the A and B pillar for a good strong cabin and to retain the front glass and original door apertures
The front wings and headlights will be bolted to tabs to keep the weight down and the rear will be a clamshell which we'll be able to remove to work on the car if necessary
The entire cabin floor is now removed
Screech finding the approximate seat position
Dashboard test fitted to see bulkhead/engine clearance
You can see the wheelbase is very similar
During the build Screech as been designing the cage which is very very important to us as we're planning for a maximum of kg and somewhere in excess of 300bhp for the first cut.
now id like to stress here this was the first shot, this has evolved massively since then and I'm working on the final design in nx5 in order to fea and test the design further. all will be revieled on that at a later date.
Even though Screech is running some FEA analysis it still held up to a real test albeit to scale
And now the pièce de résistance, last Friday we picked up a BMW 4.0 v8 engine as found in a 740, produces 290bhp out of the box and should take a few pounds of boost to get us going!
We have a lot of work ahead of us but we should make some good progress in the next couple of months

part 2 coming in about 15 mins...
