Authough ive been driving one of these at weekends about for a year or so, they have only recently been registered in my name since my father passed away last year after suffering with MND. Ive had some bad luck with classics in the past few years, 2 written off and one stolen, and having been into cars all my life my Mojo was on a major downer. Driving a Pug 405 for a year or so didnt help either! A couple of weeks ago I got one of the Maxis Insured, MOT'd, and Tax'd, which almost instantly restored my Mojo. Ive never been one to name my cars, but the one below has recently been christened 'Mojo' ;D My father bought his first Maxi over 20 years ago. It was a rough one but he liked it so much he went out and bought this Sandglow beauty. Very low milage and totaly original in 1989, it now has 170,000miles on the clock and has been through more engines and gearboxs than I can remember, one of the engines was an animal, but it was later de-tuned for daily duties. Most of the paint is original, authough its had bits here and there. Most if the running gear, suspension and brakes were renewed afew years ago, so using it as a daily driver is a suprisingly reliable experience (authough as I type its halfway through having a clutch/oilseal change) I had ideas to sell it, but after driving it again I cant. What would be the point? To sell this for £ and buy a modern numb-mobile for £ I couldnt sell it anyways, after going up and down the country in it for 20years it really is more than a car to me now. Blood, sweat and memories. The blue one was built by my Dad using a brand new bodyshell about 12 years ago. It is currently off the road awaiting a dashboard rewire, and a respray. It has no rust on it at all, neither of them do, but the paint just looks a little tired. Ive got 20 years worth of ideas to go into this car. I'm in no hurry to do it, but it will happen. I hope. Neither of these pics are that recent, but nothings really changed, and I don't think I will change much on the sandglow one at all, its the way he did it and its been that way for years. There is a rally replica too, but its rotten and stripped now. Shame as it was Tax free One of the last things he said to me was 'keep the wheels rolling son', and that comes as number one on my list of things to do

Cheers guys! Yes Pid i'll see you all at wheels day, are you meeting up anywhere beforehand? What do you mean you don't like Maxi's, you luv a bit of bilge! And if I did ever have a Farina, it would look like this, but slammed The only thing we have left of this car is the number plate (MHC 103). My sisters initials are the same so she quite rightly has that hanging in her place.

I think the pair of them are beautiful and keeping them going is a fitting tribute to your Dad. Good work buddy.

I love the look of Mojo. I suspect one day people will suddenly awake to the look and function of these and say... WOW ! What sort of silly mods like Honda V-Tec, Vaux Red top etc can one do with them ?? The function of these is already being used to good effect. Due to its massive load space when the rear seats are folded flat, runs to the dump are common, and it does tend to get some odd looks! Also, when camping, no need for a tent, just fold all the seats flat! As far as engines go ive not heared of anything being done, other than a Toyota diesel in........... Pakistan of all places! Due to the owner having trouble getting parts he has to use his imagination, his maxi has had all sorts of mods to keep it going over there, including full coil suspension. Ive no doubt all sorts of engines will fit with a bit of work. I for one wont be putting anything other than an E-series in these two, due to my Father being 'The Maxi Man', spares man for the owners club, I have LOADS of spares. The Maestro 1600 engine is just a developed E-series, and with other parts usable from other BL cars a good drivable, nippy and reliable 1500 or 1750 can be had with a little work. The first Maxi I had, a 1500, was no doubt revvier than a 1750, but the 1750 has more tourque. The biggest difference ive so far made to 'Mojo' (I'm really getting used to the name!) was to loose the rear scilencer ;D with the stupid in-and-out-of-the-same-side design for the rear scilencer it was so restrictive. If I can work out which camshaft is which in the garage, it'll be going abit school custard soon Was good to meet you at RR dollywobler, the colour of the blue one is BL nautilus blue. When it is resprayed, nothing will change

Lovely cars, I always like the Maxi, a friends dad drove nothing but them. Sorry to hear the sad news of your father, lost my dad in 2004 and I'm building a Replica of a car he had in the 70s, sadly we didn't have any of his cars when he passed away. Good luck with the cars, hold onto that tax free V5!

Since Mojo has been back on the road its had a new clutch and crank oil seal, full service and a good ol' clean up. I noticed it had been running rich so today after id washed it I gave it a tune up. After adjusting the carb a took it out for a test drive and it is now running sweet as a nut. As a result it got a darn good thrashing ;D Its great driving this to work everyday, mainly because this is the view I get. 5 Smiths auxillery guages, and a mota-lita. Ive now got 3 different mota-litas, there was a bigger one on here, but I prefer this one (not for parking though!) The other one is for a go-cart, I think When I drove it to my dads funeral I put a couple of black stripes on the bonnet as a mark of respect. I grew to like the idea of a permenant stripe on the car, so today I did it properly. I added the red and white stripe because I found a couple of rolls of pinstripe and it gave me the idea. The red white and black theme fits well too as they were his racing colours when he used to do a spot of this Whils I had the camera out I thought I'd take a shot of some proper rat look patina... And some future lushness Then I found this in all the spares, a genuine complete rear quarter. Sod changing one of these! About 5 minuits ago I found this and couldn't help putting it up for pure comedy value. Me, circa 1984, wearing my dads skid lid, which I still have. Whilst out driving this afternoon I stopped to take afew snaps of the car all clean and shiney ready for next week, and this is my new favourite Just one problem to sort out now. If the lights are on and the engine is running, the engine continues to run when the ignition is turned off, untill the lights are turned off. Comedy value is there, but I'm still going to sort it, probably goes back to when I rewired the ignition and sorted the immobiliser out. The immobiliser took a feed from the headlight switch feed, so it seems I may have messed up there somehow. Oh well, just waiting for easter bank holiday now, 4 days of classic car heaven awaits
