Warning.. up coming rambling...
Basically, iv owned my car for over a year now. In that time its been nothing but a pain in the ass. Now, over the past 7 months its been off the road for a rebuild, where the entire front end was replaced, the brakes have been rebuilt, and some of the front end electrics have been redone.
Over the past month iv been trying endlessly to get it ready for its MOT.. every time i book it in, somthing brakes.. its got to the point now, where its the emmissions letting it down, its been down to the station 4 times in a month, gone through 3 different carbs, and several other things (sparkies, leads etc)
Anyway, before all of this, when the car was on the road, in one piece (ish) i used to get excited every time i drove it, have a huge smile and be dissapointed when i had to park up and get out, even if it was just going to the shop and back. But now, theres nothing.. no excitment, just.. nothing at all... if anything its bordum. don't get me wrong, i love the car for what it is, but I'm bord of this particular car. So I'm guna get it finished, painted, new interior etc, and run it untill i have the money to replace it for another mini, just more exciting... bigger engine etc etc....
Now, before anyone brings up the obviouse, I'm NOT willing to put any more money into this one. I added it all up a few nights ago, and the amount of money that would have to be spent to get it how i want is silly.. and will get me one already done, run in, and proven to be reliable etc....
Aaaaaany way, thought i would share that...
Just, yeah... I'm bored of my car, and want somthing to excite me agian, get the fun factore back into driving my mini....
thanks for read, hope it makes sence.. (doubt it does though)

I read your post and I knew it was a mini. I have 6.5k sat behind my house wasting away. ANOTHER thing went wrong and I just had enough. Absolute moneypits sadly.

You've lost the love man, I've done it many times, you don't drive it, just see it parked there and it gets you down, I used to have a 68 bug and it's was the same, got sick of it and wanted to sell it but had to get it running first, started driving it again and got the love back. I bet that once mot'd and with you back behind the wheel, that the magic will return, you'll start looking forward to your commute to work, just give it time bro. I sold my bug to the garage who was doing some elec work on it for the mot, I hadn't driven it in months and was feeling the same as you do now, I massivley regret it, I'd do anything to get my bug back :-( I miss my bug, it wasn't anything special but it was mine, the runt. :-( my old bug has now been resprayed and messed with, so even if I could buy it back, it wouldn't be the same. So yeah, don't make any decisions yet, give it a chance and it might supprise you. Stick some pics of ya mini up, just for a mojo boost ;-) coop

^ What Coop (whatever that stands for) said!
yes, you feel annoyed by your car, as you haven't driven it in a while and it's not doing what you want it to. However, I'd suggest that you're better off with a known car - you'll know all the minor issues. A new Mini will seem better to start with, but will be hiding all sorts of issues, which may take some time to come to light. After all, no-one sells a perfect car, do they?
I felt much the same about my car a couple of month ago. however, I got it though the MOT - a majr Mojo boost in itself - and I've been enjoying it since. Ok,s o it has it's problems, but I know what they are and what i will take to sort them. With a new car it'll take much longer to know all the problems, and to know how to sort them.
OTOH, my car is my first car, and the equation might work out differently for you - after all, your first car is a bit different to all the others. I might be a bit more prepared to spend money on my car, purely becuase it's my first car.

I've owned my car for about a year and a half now. In that time I've driven it for an entire three days. I know how you feel, it moved under it's own power since September about a week ago now, but the clutch has gone. Everything I've done to get it running has to be done all over again...
But I love my car and I won't let it beat me.
Also, question, you say you've changed ignition parts and the carb, what about the exhaust?
Hang in there, these things are sent to test usl

going by what you say... Its the emmisions letting it down for getting it on the road now...
You say you have tried different carbs... But have you actually tuned any of them? If you have a co meter you can do that at home. Going by the failure readout from the garage and wind it down appropriatly. Not only will it pass the Mot Itll also run a damn site better... And to help it on its way, Take it for the test with no air filter....

There's no way you can get bored with a real Mini, it's scientifically impossible! BMW's Mini on the other hand...

I know where youre coming from and am also bored with my car. It was running fine and all hunky dory ,but I decided to sorn it for a while as I thought my boredom with it may turn into wanting it ,if it was off the road . But it hasnt helped. I've now decided to sell it (at a huge loss as usual),or swap it for a van or whatever, cos I just cant get the love back, and havent got time to get out there and pamper it anymore.Made a lot worse by the fact I could really do with my garage space back,so I'm thinking I'll turn the boredom into hate and pull it out of the garage and store it under a tarp!Such a shame ,but hey ho!Poor thing hasnt hardly been rained on ,let alone left out in the elements. Ive decided that I wont build another vehicle, and that this will deffo be the end of my car modifying days! S-o-o-o-o-o annoying! P'raps there should be a RR section for" Bored with cars ..swaps "

two choices, add more power to make it interesting again or sell it and buy something else, life's to short to worry about why you don't like your car any more, i change mine all the time, variety is the spice of life, don't knock it til you've tried it etc etc.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Why have you replaced the carb 3 times? I'd be looking elsewhere for the cause of your emissions problems if you've had to replace the carb that many times to no avail. Does it misfire or idle unevenly? Do you have a sticking valve or badly adjusted 'tappets'? Do you have an inlet leak? Have you checked the ignition timing? All of these thinks will affect your emissions. It sounds like you are just replacing parts willy nilly, when really a more thoughtful approach is required.
It is spirit crushing to keep shelling out money replacing parts only to gain no improvement. I've had loads of Minis over the years. They were the only thing I would ever buy or drive for about 12 years! While prices are higher now, you have to remember that a few short years ago they were cheap and cheerful modes of transport and were treated as such. Because they were so cheap to buy, they were poorly maintained as it was often cheaper to just buy a replacement Mini rather than rectify problems. As long as you undo the years of neglect and maintain it properly, they are as reliable and easy on the wallet as any other small car. In fact, I think their simplicity makes them more reliable than most of the electronic rubbish of today. They just require a little more day to day care. If you're not mechanically minded, get it looked at by someone who is. If you buy another, chances are you're just buying a different set of problems. Persevere with it.

Things:
1) I have poured thousands into a car and it has not been on the road in 6 years, however I love it to bits regardless.
2) Your mini is brilliant, and many people out there envy you for having one at all!
3) I also poured thousands into another car, tried to sell it and epically failed. I'm now in the process of RE-fixing everything and making it even better, even though it annoys me a bit, it won't when its finished.
4) I spent 9 months doing an awkward carb change, then had a mechanic (old school) set the carb up, (for like a tenner) and then I don't have to deal with it. It's great.
5) I've also driven that same car about 9 times in the last four months, while it slowly uses up the Tax. This is not a reason for me to love the car any less!
In short, FIX IT! or pay someone to FIX IT! then you'll either love it, or have a vastly more saleable car to sell.

I nearly fell out with my car 1 year ago. For 5 months it was of the road as the engine conversion ran it into problems and then stuff started breaking. However it all cam together.
Also I go with pay the professionals to fix a car. I do and mine is mostly reliable except for when stuff broke on the last track day, and the coil failing, the leads giving up, gear linkage breaking and m/clyinder packing up. Old cars who would have 'em.

Get rid of it and get something you're more passionate about. Or get it properly fixed and make it into something you're more passionate about.
