I would like to have my fire truck on air rides in the future.Its weight is 2 and a haft ton un loaded any ideas who would sell the stuff and possible fit it as i would have no idea how to.Thanks

Have you considered robbing the parts from a P38 range rover? The system is relatively simple and can be put on switches for each wheel  It also has the advantage of giving a big lift (or drop depending on how you swing lol) And, the scrappies have loads of them  |

Do you think it would be able to lift my fire truck camper.I am trying to understand how it works how does it lift or lower when theres leaf springs.How can it pull the truck down to lower it with the tension of the spring.Do i make sence.

It should cope with that quite well, the range rover is around the 2 ton mark unloaded and the bags are designed to take the stresses of heavy off road. On the rangie there are no springs at all and the bags and shocks do everything, they are controlled by a relatively small compressor and although in the rangie they go through its ecu it is possible to by-pass this and have them switchable (we do this on a friends and can set it to any ride height and independantly front/rear and side to side). Using that you can set low for fast roads, high and stiff for heavy loading and offroading. The system Is actually alot better than folk say if its set up right. I havent fitted them to any other car but I do know that folk used to convert rangies back to coils with very little hassle so I imagine the opposite is true aswell? I stand to be corrected on this though If I was thinking along your lines I would definately look into it, in fact now the subject is here I may look into airbagging my CF/Rangie build...... see what you have done now? LMAO |

Air bags LIFT a car. You basically lower your car somehow (blocks, remove the springs entirely, etc) then the airbags pump up to raise it up. You'd want to have no springs at all and replace them with air bags (sometimes, called airsprings!) Hope that helps |

If your on leaves on a live axle at the back and a beam axle at the front (like my Transit) you'll probably need to remove all the leaves except the one thats fixed to the mounting points on the chassis, the axle mounts will probably need altering to take into account that the leaf spring is now thinner. you can then add the bags between the axles and the chassis, making up suitable mounts, the weaker leves will be unable to support the weight so they will let the truck drop down to its lowest height, but they will still locat the axles, the air bags should then be taking the weight of the vehicle. At least thats how i'm planning my Transit will work.  |

When you take away the extra leave springs does that mean thats the diffrence what it drops.So if you take away total 4inc of spring it will only lower 4inc.

I'm pretty sure if you take all but one leaf out of your truck it'll drop pretty low, obviously i haven't seen yours but most trucks have a substantial set of leaves on em, I doubt a single one will be able to support the weight at all and it'll sag right down onto the bumpstops.

Rayvern are very good at what they do, you need to lower your truck to the lowest position mechanically and then use the bags to increase the ride height there are a couple of pics of a rayvern setup with leaf springs here www.vwcaddy.com/album.php?albumid=18 |

so let me get this right,
if i get the 4 airbags, compressor and pump and associated air lines (from a p38 landy), remove the springs from the car, and replace with suitable mounted airbags, you could have the car sitting on the floor, and raise it with switches when needed to drive?

The bags may or may not fit your car - They look to be quite long, so even at the shortest they might not actually lower the car at all. Also, if you car has a coil over damper setup (most do at least at one end) you won't be able to use the p38 bags at that end. You can get bags that slide over a damper, but they are quite expensive. |

When you let the air out, they deflate and the truck will drop until you hit bumpstops/the floor. When you want more height, you add pressure and the bags inflate. One problem is that the bags are at their softest when they are at their lowest. There are a million and one ways to fit bags to a car/van, but a common way on leaf sprung vehicles is to take most of the leaves out so that the leaf spring is only left to locate the axle. On its own, the one leaf will not be enough to support the weight of the vehicle, and it will sag onto the bumpstops. A cylindrical airbag is placed between the axle and the chassis on either side and this is then inflated to take the weight of the van, and rise/lower it. |

How much will it lower. I am after lowering my truck 6inc.With me removing the springs i would have took about 2inc of spring out.So does that mean my truck will only be 2inc lower , thanks
