Because I found it how to have a 3" straight through exhaust and have a small bore peashooter like grandma poking out the valence...

theres a few diesel motors running around with those (well with fatter chrome tips anyway) i can only guess its because it keeps the chrome bits clean and looks more sporty

Well, (re) found Edd. Unfortunately I don't have sufficient room to hide the Heralds pipe otherwise I would do this!

My dad used to have a friend in the 50's with some sleeper, and I remember him telling me of the results, often surprise.

There was a sleeper Mk3 Escort that had a similar exhaust I think. Light metallic blue with Cosworth running gear, badged up as a 1.3L.

Thats a cool and novel idea.
Just to be a spoil sport wouldn't it fail an MOT because the exhaust fumes are exiting underneath the vehicle?

nope. absolutely tons of cars do that, mostly diesels. my 2.0 8v b4 passat exhaust did that as stock.

The triangular pipes in those civics really dissapointed me when I first saw them up close. They look cool, and then you realise there's just a wee pee shooter up the centre of them. It's a naffness that broke my heart.
