I'm trying to find info on any Works Team Support Vehicles used to service and back up the Works Minis on the Monte Carlo Rallies in the mid 1960s. Anyone have any idea what was used? Pics would be great! Thanks. Have a pic of the 1967 winner

There's a book called 'The BMC / BL Competition Department' which is now out of print.
There are several photos in there of Vanden Plas 3 or 4 litre Rs used as service vehicles, so that would have been in about the same period as the Monte Minis. Not sure if they were actually used on the Monte though.
Someone will surely post a photo...

Did they even have support vehicles then? It's certainly close to the era where you had to carry your own spares and it was driving from one place to another, not the stages type rallies we have today.

2 superb pics - thanks.
Not sure that the Minis would have used the Atlas vans though tbh.

Its up for auction in the US at the moment, used by the competitions department, possibly on rally duties

Found a pictures of a Mini being serviced in 1965 ;D Not sure what that is. I don't recall big-Farina estates but it could be a little-Farina (Cambridge / Oxford). Anyone know?

I suspect it was purpose built - the Cambridge/Oxford estates had split tailgates as standard. It looks like this: But that is supposedly a one off. That's what it is then - the shape of the rear arches gives the game away as not a Cambridge / Oxford. So it must be a Westminster or VdP big Farina with a one-off fully opening rear hatch. I vaguely remember Practical Classics raising an issue with a VdP estate being classic bangered about 10 years ago, and I think there was a comment that it was one of only 7 made. Definitely a shame if they are gone forever...

My Dad had an Oxford estate - rare even in the early 70s.
Either that or his Jensen 541 must have been the first car I ever went in (at 3 days old). Pretty cool!

Looks to be a Vanden Plas Estate but with a one piece tailgate: Though Austin Westminster is also similar:

It is a Austin Westminster Estate, there were afew factory built ones used as rally barges. There have been a couple of custom built ones, the maroon one above is a homebrew using allsorts of bits and bobs, but youd never guess, its a very cleaver bit of kit. heres another one of the Vanden Plas, i think this ones genuine
