right soo.... in mid october just after my scooter got stolen from me at uni I decided I needed something else to get me from a to b here.
so instead of doing the normal sane thing and buy something that worked well with tax and MOT, I decided to buy a spares and repairs honda cb125rs.
one problem being the guy had already started selling the parts off it so when I went to go pick it up it had no seat, handlebars, lights, footpegs, mud gaurds, clocks... you get the picture.
this was just crying to be made into a racer!
sadly I didnt take any photos of it as I bought it but I have some as I go along.
first problem to get over was the rear brake was seized so a good serving of hammer and wd40 fixed that bad boy, then fork seals needed replacing.
then I started looking for a seat. bad thing bout this is I was searching while watching american chopper, so as all young malkes think as they watch that sorta programme... I could do that. so instead of buying a seat and customising it from there, I decided to buy a sheet of steel and make one from scratch.
for a clock I decided to hook up an old triumph tacho which I had customised to fit. (after first test drive blew it up. bearings I think?)
so now I had a bike which as yet un tested but would roll and stop pretty well. this is where we were at now.
seat end cone being fabricated
during christmas holiday I set myself one task which I could do at home while leaving the bike at home, so I decided to finish off the seat to a good level.
after alot of hammers, filler, stopper, primer and ALOT of sanding it was finally smooth enough to paint.
then covered it in a nice bit of leatherette I found lying about the garage.
as I got back to uni I was chuffed and put it on the bike. IMO I looked sweeet.
but then in its first test drive I found the engine had major oiling problem, so now the engine is in bits in my living room. found out both the cylinder and bore are very badly scored, vale seal may be on the way out and the head gasket was f**ked.
so sadly now it comes to the point where I swallow my pride and hijack my own thread...
does anyone out there in retro world have a 1983-87 cb125rs/cg125 engine out there.
hope you like the bike as a looker anyway. any feedback would be more than welcome
much love
