Well I finally got another one of the bloody things (having had 2x GLT's and 1x 343DL in the past)  Some of you may already know the car as kwacker was selling it on 300 mania and it was for sale on the Volvo Owners Club a few months ago... I nearly bought it when the original owner was selling it but was being overly picky, as it's pretty much lovely. It's an 84 GLS B19A with 45k miles, full history, first owner for 25yrs etc etc. Bit of rust on the front corners of the wings, but not much elsewhere - by far the cleanest I've owned for sure. There are a couple of things that have shown up on the 100 mile trip back. The rear suspension seems overly firm... maybe the shocks aren't shocking any more/or as much as they should? There's sometimes a little hesitancy when accelerating hard, but after an initial hesitancy it pulls like a train. The engine kinda seems reluctant to rev, dunno if that's just the way these things are though and I think would benefit from some adjustment on the top end as it sounds a little tappety when revving. Oh also, the manual rack feels pretty horrid - haven't checked the condition of the steering damper but it's very vague at the straight ahead position. But it shot up the motorway for 100 miles between 60-80mph without issue and it's quiet for one of these things! Plans are a set of Leo's and a Mk2 GLT rear spoiler and sort out the above issues! Pictars! (that's not rust on the sills/doors - it's greasy marks of some sort, looks like out of the doors/door shuts)

Now that's a blast from the past. I had one that was identical as my 2nd car. It cost me a 100 quid with 9 months mot quid and tax a pensioner up the road who who was getting shot of it.
How are you finding the fuel consumption? Mine was bloody awful and it broke down more than any car I've ever owned. Yours is in better condition than mine was when I got it and that was 12 years ago.

It feels like a blast from the past driving it too... ;D
I have to say the consumption doesn't seem that bad... I haven't driven it all that far yet but on the drive home from Bristol the gauge hasn't moved much at all .(I know this isn't exactly accurate!). I'd say it was comparable to my previous GLT's which got between 25-35mpg. Obviously as it's carbed it's gonna get progressively worse the shorter the journeys become! I'm very much suspecting the carb will need attention sooner rather than later as well.
Was yours definitely a 2.0? I can't see other than carb problems there being anything that would otherwise cause breakdowns.
My parents had similar 345's about 12years ago too... despite them being 10yrs younger than this one at the time they were nowhere near as good. I'm genuinely amazed at how nice this one has been kept.

I'm genuinely amazed at how nice this one has been kept. It was a 2.0 GLS. Same colour and interior as yours, totally identical but mine was an A reg.. Funnily enough it was the carb that was the problem. After many breakdowns I found a split in the carb diaphram. Once I fixed it, it stopped breaking down but I must have only got 15-20mpg so it obviously wasn't setup right. I once ran out of petrol, thumbed a lift to the petrol station, put 1/2 a gallon in a tin, thumbed a lift back to the car, put the half gallon in it, drove 5 miles to the petrol station and run out again about 100 yards from entrance. I always fancied a GLT and I'd probably have one now if I could find one.

I've had two 360 GLT's before and I have to say I don't think there's much in it, although the later GLT's definitely feel a bit more sporty with better steering and suspension. The injection system is very primitive so to me this actually feels more responsive!
Unfortunately none of them came with LSD's.... shame really as they could really benefit from one.

Hi,
I wanted gearbox and propshaft from 300 series to make RWD small car. You don't see them any more even in scrap yard so where do you buy them from!?
I only remember 3Dr version of this car and getting in was easy due to folding seats in them was excellent!
Cheers Atchi

Try 300mania.com.... someone is usually breaking a car for spares on there. There are differences between the 360 and 340 drivetrain that might mean one or the other is more suitable for your build.
I wish this was a 3dr really, they look much smarter - the seats folding towards the centre of the car really helps!

Well good news is that I've got a local garage now! So at some point in the next couple of weeks I'll pop up to Lincoln where it's currently stored and bring it back. Classic insurance is looking to be under £150 a year, so cant grumble! Thought in a spare dry moment today I'd start refurbishing a set of Mk2 GLT Leo alloy wheels I picked up a few weeks back, right pain to sand back being quite a few nooks and crannies. There are also 4 indentations in the rim that look to be there from the factory(!). I was thinking of using some chemical metal or something to fill them in, has anyone had any experience with this? I've also managed to get hold of an early Mk2 rear lip spoiler and Hella spot lamp grille, so these will make it on in due course. Still got to source a spare passenger front mudflap and GLT front 3 piece lip spoiler.

Finally managed to get round to fitting the wheels, getting new tyres all round and fitting a Hella spot light grille... so it's coming along Unfortunately developed an idling issue on the way back from Becketts Farm Classic Car show last night in Wythall, so I suspect I'll be looking at the carb very shortly! They have a SU style Stromberg CD175. Other than that, prep it for MOT (doubt it'll need much/anything) and fit the GLT rear lip spoiler
