right then.... first proper thread on rr last year I found this banger rally which goes from calais to prague, www.czechwrecks.com/rally.esp?PG=about, really wanted to go but things got in the way n didnt get off the ground. this time round tho we are on the team list already n have a car (albeit still scrap atm). the car we will be using is a triumph herald 1300 which I acquired last october for no moneys. sadly the car needs a lot of work (welding, brakes, engine then customisation!) some of which iv already got down to. so I'm thinking this thread can be a rebuild thread with a good rally diary bit at the end. hopefully pictures will be added shortly once I find out how to add photos. love to hear thoughts and if anyones driven these cars for any sort of endurance tests, I would love to know whats most likely to go wrong much love

Always wanted to do this run. But kids etc have just made it impossible for me.
don't know what goes wrong with them, but Sko Forum used to get requests for old Skoda's promising to return the cars back to this country when finished, however they never came back. Cars were always scrapped at the destination and they flew home. Hence why requests there are pretty much ignored now. Ive always wondered why put the older than n reg rule on. Surely any car under £150 should be eligable and just as much fun?

Corrected Though I believe that's a whole load of debate in itself which seems to end with 'as long as you feed them SOMETHING every couple thousand miles (at least) then they're fine. Mine were clogged with grease when I was trying to put oil in so had to be cleaned out. It sounds like an awesome thing to do so I'll be watching closely.. Good luck with it

Sounds like a fun thing to do ! I would't grease the trunnions though ! This is a common mistake, they should have oil in them ! Look in the manual, i think it is ep80, not 100% sure though. Can't remember what I put in mine now.
Good luck !!

EP90 for the trunnions ; A quick Google map tells me its in the region of 1150km though obviously your route may vary. So thats a bit over 714 miles. Should be a doddle! Mrs Seth used to do 500 a week in her 1200 (when it was still a 1200) Take spare points/condensor/rotor etc. As long as there are fluids present everything else ought to survive the jaunt. Edit: Just had a closer look at your route. Looks like fun! A bit further but the above still applies

yee oil the trunions, my spitfire had grease in n had to replace them.
seth, 500 a week sounds easy enough sadly this will have only just gone thru a mot after 15 years of standing so may have a few teething problems on route which is not so appealing.
aydena, iv seen u about alot on the street safari forum u looked as if u had a right laugh, u doing a rally this year?

StreetSafari rallys are great fun.
I did S2N '06 and have been dying to do another, but work commitments, family and money have kind'a tied me up a bit.
Just changed jobs do that might lend itself to being able to afford it later this year. We'll see.

3000 miles! Presumably you're bringing it back then? Admirable if so.

We spent £347 on fuel to go 5400 miles in a Diesel Citroen AX, but we bought a good proportion of our fuel in Morocco at 74p a litre. The AX did between 40mpg on a bad day to a peak of 75mpg on the best day.
