Again, what I say I think holds true for the driving style though. People here if you're going to the free state always tell you to watch out for the drivers. ;D Deireann achan duine abhus anseo an rud céanna faoi dhaoine ón Tuaisceart. There is another rally school somewhere in NI, Superdrive in Portadown. As said before check rally.ie for local rallies. I'm not so sure about drifiting, but there should be a list of events around somewhere.

Yeah Superdrive has 4 Mk2 Escorts and an Impreza WRC, and I think an Evo VI. Its also about 20 minutes from my house and 15 from Jonny. IF you want to make it simples Mr Dr. I'm sure between us we could lend you a car if you fly in - that way, you get the quick and cheap way of flying in, without having to drive the automotive version of a damp teatowel. Mr 'Net is right, get down to the Ulster Folk and Transport museum. Some very nice cars in there (and even more in their sheds ) and some excellent outdoor displays. Take a full day for that. When you get down to the bottom of Ireland the there are a couple more nice ones - I'd recommend Kilgarvan Motor Museum, in Killarney, somewhere. And there should always be a show on around then. Possibly the Larne show might be on, in which case prepare for a good dose of old-skool. Everybody here fancies themself as a rally driver and any decent show usually has enough cars to re-run a 1982 WRC event...

I used to do a hell of alot of driving around Ireland. The best roads I have ever driven have been in Cork/Kerry and the west coast of Kerry. Fantastic and much better than Dublin roads. That said Wicklow is beautiful.
If you're coming over, we should definitely organise a meet! Are you planning to go to the gathering in the UK too?

I think its going to be Hotels/B&Bs That lessens the cool, and the choice too a bit. We have a lot of good B&Bs pretty much everywhere, outside of the main towns about £25-30 a night. You might like to consider renting a static caravan on the North Coast for a few days if you're going to do Donegal/Antrim places. Nice seafront locations and pretty much everywhere in Northern Ireland is 4 hours away tops.

Most of the B&Bs over here are fantastic, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them over hotels.

few months later, and this evening i had a play with google maps and all the tips from this topic + some other i got along the way of planning this. i planned it all in, it's 1600km in total, we've got about 10 quality days in Ireland (+ 4 for driving home, which makes the total milega about 3300km in 2 weeks, am i mad? ) But i think it's a little bit too much to do in 10 days! i think we leave at friday 30th of April, arrive in Ireland at 2nd of May and head back home again on the 11th of May, or maybe the 12th.

yeah, your pics looked awesome and if i'd skip it, I would only 'loose' 200kms orso from the total mileage now I need to find a decent ferry, I have 2 options, leaving at 3 am overhere and arrive Friday at 19:00 in Ireland (+ a possible hard to find place to sleep), or do an all nighter and arrive at 7am on saturday and be knackered all day...

as it looks now, we're maybe gonna skip the top end and head straight back to dublin after the ring of Enniskillen ( ) as 1600km in 10 days is just madness if you want to see anything. Or is Belfast mega interesting to do? The only real thing i wanted to do the north thing would be the giants causeway, but driving to the norht only for that is insane i think

yeah, i know it's way to short, but i don't have more time! There are so many things to see and do, that i'll have to skip some things here and there to be able to get out of the car!

Well that ring I told you about could all be easily done in a few hours no problem man, you should try to fit the Giants Causeway in though if you can as it's quite spectacular

If you're going to the Giants Causeway on a Sunday you'll get a double hit because every car club in the north seems to cruise this route. There's a DeLorean at the Transport Museum in Belfast, if that floats your boat? If you like real-road bike racing then you've just come to the best place in the world. Great atmosphere too.

Just a suggestion - between O and P. Once you're into Coleraine - don't go straight to Carrick-a-Rede. Use the A2 to Portstewart and you'll be on the North-West 200 motorcycle route. Portstewart Strand's worth a try - 2 miles of driveable beach (no speed limit) and back onto the motorcycle course on the A2 through Portrush and stay on the same coast road to Bushmills/Carrick-a-Rede.

Current vehicle collection: 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible - in mid-life crisis yellow No new retro as yet ... all attempts to sneak one onto the drive have failed.

Focusing on the North (as it's my bit ) Once you exit Leigh's triangle circuit, DON'T go up via Omagh. Change that to either going up through Donegal (towards Letterkenny) and across to the Giants Causeway (probably too long though) or else drive east to Dungannon, and up through Magherafelt and to the Causeway that way (much nicer roads, and you can up beside Lough Neagh). Once you've done the North West 200 route as DcLane says, then instead of going down more A-roads, follow the Coast road which takes you on that green route round the side down to Larne, and is known as one of the best roads in the UK (by people not from NI !) And yes, the Cultra Motor Museum, shipyard, city centre, are definitely places worth visiting in Belfast. You could make up the time by avoiding Dublin on the way back down. There is absolutely nothing to see in Newry or Dundalk and chances are you'd have driven past them before realising anyway. Also, there are plenty of B&Bs near the dock (you'll drive past at least 20 before you're 5 miles into Ireland) and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting into one before 2100h. Can't find any car shows on during those dates though.
