It's worth noting that insurers are required to put the record on to MID within 7 days. So the police can't expect all vehicles to be on MID.
Adrian Flux only took a few days to put on 2 of my cars. As a precaution I guess it's worth carrying a copy of the paperwork with you.

if your direct debits havent been going out and your policy has been cancelled insurance companies are required to give you notice in the form of a letter sent by recorded delivery...

Are they? 99% of the geniune "They cancelled the policy without telling me cos the direct debit didn't go through" cases I see in court received no such notification whatsoever. And I see a lot of them... Interesting

Who are you insured with? Would be a good heads up for anyone else using the same broker/company if this is something they routinely do.

Your opinion is invalid, I've seen your wife.

Interesting - I know someone who was away on holiday when they tried to deliver the cancellation by recorded delivery. Nobody collected it , so GPO returned it after 7 days. Insurance company then cancelled the policy. So you then have someone who ( as far as they know ) is all legal, insured, and have a valid ins cert, but who are driving uninsured Insurance company response "We sent the notification by recorded delivery"

Interestingly according to that checker it appears that my BMW is insured, although not by me at the moment, so I assume the previous owner hasn't yet cancelled their insurance.

Panda, most insurance companies that provide 'credit' take monthly payments over either 8 or 10 months so you have a couple of months or so with no payments taken by direct debit ... you probably just paid your annual sum already...

askmid is not 100% reliable - check out the info for the most expensive number plate
A1 is on the Motor Insurance Database today
The details on the MID are:
Vehicle Make/Model: TOYOTA AVENSIS GS
Prior to that it said it was on Reno Clio
A1 has never been on those cars- as it has been on a Mini Cooper in that time and still is.
