seeing as my situation has changer, i don't need a work van now, my missus has kept her new beetle so i have my 1.4 8v polo going spare. i want to keep it for a bit, because i have spend a few quid on it recently (coilies, rims and exhaust) and I'm not going to get it back. but its dog slow and not fun for me, does anyone know much about engine swaps on them? nothing redicoulous really, just 120-130 bhp would be good, could even be on carbs if it was any easier to do. having a quick google search came up with the 1.6 gti lump, but its not really my cuppo'tea, being a)a 1600 b)more modern than what is already a modern enough car, i.e a fly by wire conversion etc, which i don't want.
also, if i do it myself i have to find somewhere to do it, so if not, anyone recommend someone to do it at a sensible price? (i have enough on my plate with bikes+camper)
thanks, jay

It all depends how far you want to go really. As far as I'm aware the largest engine you can go to with a strait swap is the 1600. However people fit 20vt's and VR6's in them, its just requires a little more work. A nice option that would be easy, reasonably priced and fun to drive would just be to stick in a cammed 1.4l 16v on bike carbs, that should see the power you're after, while being pretty strait forward.

'tis indeed a can of worms...
Polo MK4 chassis with MK2 golf front end extention - which is why it houses the 2.0's and the polo didnt as standard Golf MK3 front running gear, engines etc apart from the 1.0's Polo MK4 back - hence the narrower track. Polo MK4 dash Polo MK4/Golf MK3 Seats And a few little bits and bobs from all over the VW range
taken from a thread 'what's an Ibiza made of?'
i get lost on chassis designations where VAG is concerned __________________

Yeah, the Ibiza's a 6F iirc, think its slightly wider, and possibly a bit taller. EDIT - beaten to it Ive got a bashed Ibiza with a 2.0 ABF I'm gonna strip and see if I can squeeze the running gear in my 6N in the new year. Its not gonna be a bolt-in swap, but as we all know, anything's possible ;D Back to the original point, I think possibly an AFH (from the 1.4 16v model) would be the most powerful engine you could easily swap in... but then it would probably make more sense to sell the one youve got and just buy a 16v.

general concencus is ....
both 6K in principle as seat regard the mk3 more as a facelift because the platform hadn't altered design but the 6K2 seems to be widely adopted and useful to seperate the two
>>> 6K_X_399999 is the last mk2 /// 6K_X_400000 >>> for mk3
for the anoraks the factory dates mk2 last run was 30.06.99 & mk3 started 01.03.1999 so a few months crossover
