as some off you know i am working on a project at my house at the min because my wife is pregnant
and even tho i want to work on my cars i wanted to spend time with her
so today i went to my shed to get some bits and peices took the whole gang with me for a run
when i came back we found that some scrap men had been round while we where out and posted a card threw the letter box with there details on it
we thought nothing off it to behonest scrap men would often chance ther arm when they see what they think is a scrap car
it was only later that my wifes younger brother (who lives with us) said he herd them at the door while he was in bed and stuck his head out the window only to find them helping themselfs to a brand new exhaust (for the project car that i just bought off ebay for £250 ) its an ashley so it looks grubby from new and some other bits and peices
cheeky bas
so he made 1 vital mistake lol he left his calling card

I take it he didn't get the exhaust? If so, that's good.

This must happen all over the place, the amount of times i've caught them in my back yard, trying to take stuff, it goes something like this "what you doing", "nothing", "well if you are doing nothing what you doing in my yard", we saw this stuff, and thought it was scrap", "well it not now F**K OFF". I now have a lock on the back gate, keeps them out for now.

I've had it happen twice.
First time they took a cast iron bath that took at least two people to lift in the dead of night from right outside the front door! They even completely emptied it of broken tiles, stacking them in a neat pile!) and carried it over two cars and nobody heard a thing! Still, saved me borrowing a van to get rid of it...
Second time, I put a set of HPF Firenza alloys beind our old locked 6' driveway gates and went to the pub. Two hours later and SWMBO catches some thieving scumbag who's clambered over the gate and smashed the padlock off before starting to make off with the wheels and various other bits of steel, etc! She went ballistic at him (bless her!), so much so that the neighbour heard and came out. He said he thought it was rubbish and was 'tidying up'. Him and his two friends drove off in their "tarmac your drive Sir?" Transit tipper, reg number duly noted, after being forced to put it all back...

Ive had various scrap men at my house. If I'm there I show them stuff to take away. Dad had a lot of usefull/useless stuff. One of them used to give me a tenner for a load in his transit. But last time I seen him he used his grinder to cut up a few things. Then said that he wouldnt get anymore cash than would pay for the grinder disk he used up. Not seen him for years. Then there was a couple of big blokes. They wouldnt pay me anything for the scrap. One time they came I had a cast iron boiler and radiators for them to take away. But my brother was fixing his cars brakes in the driveway. So they couldnt get past, so they fixed his brakes for him. My sister took a load of scrap away from the yard, in the winter time. Got near £200 for it. Paid for a skip that I needed to take a pile of rocks away. Recenty my garage has been infested by rats. Theyve eaten the grips on my bikes. So I put the bikes out in my back yard. I wired and roped the bikes together. So the neds cant quickly take them away. But the day after, I went to my yard and saw that 3 seats had been taken. I suppose Ive got problems with rats that have 2 and 4 legs.

For the honest ones (there are a couple!) I have a phone and a card, and they have my number. For the dishonest ones, we're currently installing a galvanised steel 5x11 gate bolted into a wall that a mate has built at his new fabricating job. For the rats, we used to have the odd one what with a stream across the back of our field, but now we have a large tomcat who is encouraged to 'forage' Not had a problem for a year.

I got a packet of 3 sachets of rat poison from Tescos. I put one down at the wooden bench at back of garage, then another one down beside the back door. Theres a hole there thats under neath the huge stone block thats the door base. I left the last plastic sachet in the cardboard box with the plastic tray, on a wooden desk near the back door. Next day the wooden bench tray was empty, the door tray had dissapeared, and the box was gone off the desk. It was in a bucket on the floor, had the plastic tray still in there, but the plastic savhet was gone. Next time I was in back yard I found 2 dead rats. So kicked them over to the grass and buried them in the soil. And spilled water over my spade to clean off any dieases that might be on there. Was working out in the rain as well. The rat was about the size of a brick. My cat WD40 came over. But I told him to stay away from the dead rat. Hes not much of a hunter killer. Brother found 6 dead rats in the shed in amoungst some stuff he was moving, yesterday. Its unusual for him to do anything about the house. But he does like to throw away other peoples stuff

Never had anything taken - I read a local scrapyard had actually towed away and dismantled someone's Vauxhall Carlton, from a street, in front of someone's house! They got taken to court.
