Coming back up from the coast yesterday (collecting some wheels i'd won on the bay), i spotted the oddest looking thing coming the other way. It looked like someone had taken a 2CV, removed the front wings and everything else back from the front bulkhead and replaced it with a roll cage.
Look V odd. Anyone seen it/got pic's of it (was driving so couldn't get one)

Sorry I can't help - it sure sounds interesting. I just wanted to add a random 2CV sighting of my own the other day. Driving through Bristol I spot a 2CV towing another 2CV. One was bright green, the other a matt sand colour....one might have been a van (the sand colour I think?) and I think one might have been a Dyane?? The reason for sounding so vague about this Citroen duo is because I was distracted by a very bizarre sight! The driver appeared to have a hand missing and in place was a wheel brace!!!!! Seriously - he was turning the steering wheel (going left at a junction) and I could clearly see the end of a wheel brace protruding from his sleeve where his hand should have been! I did not dream it before you say anything! Anyone know anything about this man? The whole thing just looked surreal and kinda reminded me of Mr Igoe from the film Innerspace with his 'gadget hand' (the only shot I can find) It was one of these sticking out about 6" from the end of his arm Sorry to go OT but seeing as we're on the subject of tracking down unusual 2CV things I thought I'd add this in too.....

Can't help with the Baja, but sounds like Mystery Machine has seen 'hookey' who lives in the Bristol area. His right hand has been replaced with a hook - pretty sure it's not a wheel-brace though! Oh, hold on - maybe I can help with the Baja. Was it this one? 4x4 chassis by Louis Barbour. These things go anywhere!

no help on the 2cv spot (sounds cool though!) - but I did see something similar to the 'wheelbrace' arrangement once before - me and the old git were at the festival of 1000 bikes, poring over a nice 20's sidecar outfit, when we noticed an odd ball fitting on the r/h handlebar end we were puzzling over it, when the owner came over, and showed us the socket on the end of his wrist (replacing his hand) - which fitted the ball, and allowed him to steer - perhaps it was something similar??

cant help with the baja 2cv but during one of my trips from somerset to scotland i spotted a 2cv with a luggage box in place of the back half and there is a 1cv used for a banger rally (it was narrowed) and a tale i read about once was a chap did rallycross (i think) in a beetle who had only one hand and used a ball and socket type set up to steer but once when he crashed his car he climbed out of the wreck and when a marshall asked him if he was ok, he held up his arm and said "oh no my hands still in the car" at which point the marshall went exceedingly pale. ttfn glenn

THE exact one i thought of when i read the description, built all those years ago by 2cv adventurist and larger than ife character Micky Playfor, of UDAC ( correct me if I'm wrong )

Very true TYP 19. The late and very great Micky Playfor indeed did this one. I was lucky enough to blag a go on it with no body on at 2CVGB registers in about 1996 or 7.

nope, it had no wings or doors, and the rollcage sort of followed the flow that the bodywork would have (if that makes sense, was very curved). looked really well put together.

Flying down a fast section, and the guy in front of him fell off quite badly, and got back up swearing and missing an arm from just bellow the elbow! haha, turned out it he had a prosthetic arm and it had just pulled off.
