i was just wondoring what was involved when preparing parts for chroming. the parts are from a 1978 CG125 K1, and have already been chromed as standard. unfortunately, the is too much surface rust on them to polish them up nicely, so new chrome is required. the parts are the top covers for the forks and the indicator parts.
thanks

realisticly theres nothing you can do, let the chromers deal with it.
The old chrome needs stripping and the metal polishing, neither are really a home job.
Polishing steel to a quality ready to be chromed is not easy, and even if you did it wouldnt save you much.

The finish is in the prep work, i use to get my parts stripped then i would do the polishing which is the most time consuming part and you can put in more attention to the corners etc that the platers can't do with out charging you a small fortune, this is just my experience over years of restoring old alloy and steel parts and working as a machinist.
