Model: Merc 230E W123
Year: 82
Mileage: 160k odd
Tax: April 10
MOT: Juneish 10
Location: Cambridge
Price: One grand
I've had this as my daily for about a year, bought it on here so seems only fair to try to sell it on here - but it's such a decent one - and I'm so poor - that if it doesn't go within a week or so I'll have to fit some standard springs and retail it for a fortune.
I've put c. 10k miles on it with no breakdowns or failures. When I bought it the clutch bearing was chattering so it's had a new clutch, a new exhaust back box and an oil change. It was also various colours of red down one side, so that's all been professionally painted.
It's mechanically 100%, never fails to stop or start perfectly. The 230E is the best one to have, I reckon : 136bhp so goes well enough to overtake slow stuff (and Gr84DRFT), but fuel injected so returns 30mpg without trying. It's a 5 speed manual, from the time that getrag manuals were good, so cruises all easy and smooth on the motorway. Costs me £90 to insure on a classic policy, though I am 30
Slammed through a good old spring chop, but they're linear springs so rides fine and will handle standard speed bumps no bother.
It's got central locking, power steering and an electric mirror (which is tempremental) plus an electric sunshine roof and an OK CD player / radio head unit, plus an immobiliser that does the job nicely. It's a one key fits all car too.
It was an old gimmer car for 20 odd years before the previous guy bought it and comes complete with 'Borneo and Malaya Veterans Association' stickers. It's been well looked after and doesn't appear to have been welded underneath, flew through the MoT with no advisories. I reckon the old boy used to throw money at it as it has a £££ Bosch battery, newish looking genuine alternator and Michelin Energy rubber, but sadly the previous owner can't find the history. There's no rot and it presents really well except 2 little dings on the bonnet that you notice close up.
Inside is tan MB tex, little hole in the driver's seat but otherwise great. I have the headrests but reckon the low back look is the one to roll.
This is proper euro taxi / mafia wagon that you can easily roll every day and every time I get back into it after I drive a modern thing I smile like a tit cos it's so awesome. Chicks seem to dig it (or is that me?) as do old gimmers, who like to try to tell you that the air suspension has failed like it did in their old SE, best response is that it's riding low cos there are two bodies in the boot.
Never buy a Blackberry for its photographic abilities, cos they come out like this :
I'll stick better ones up tomorrow, when [if] I find the card for my camera.
Also comes with mahusive brown tint aviator shades, that stay with the car.
