Aye, I heard what happened to Bruce - he was supposed to rendezvous with me somewhere near Wigan so that he could get Grizz's generator over to Chris. I only spoke to him briefly but it seems there was a problem with the LPG unit in his van and the bonnet had jammed shut. When I spoke to him at around 4.30 this afternoon he was waiting for the RAC to arrive somewhere on the M6 I'll open up Grizz's old thread and try to get the genny back to Grizz another way. All the best to MM, hope you get back okay.....

How about a nice thread of interesting,.. but broken down cars for this return?
Or Dugong could relate the story of trying to get to the gathering last year!! That was a mission and a half!

Just spoken to Bruce, and it seems they've had a right palaver getting back home. The Volvo is now moving under its own power again, but the AA man was not the most helpful person in the world. He insinuated that the car wasn't worth getting going again, and that he wouldn't call for a low loader to take them home. Instead four separate towing jobs would be needed, which understandably didn't go down well. He even went as far as to call it a 'piece of curse word not worth saving'. And this after Bruce and Ben had spent all day swapping the front end panels on it. His one saving grace was getting the bonnet open which had jammed. Bruce diagnosed the problem quicker than the AA bloke which doesn't bode well for our fourth emergency service. Ben has the full paperwork that you normally get with a call out, so some vile feedback will be hitting the fan ASAP. What a nice way to be greeted after waiting over an hour. MM and crew soldier on into the night.........

Thanks Guys,
Home safe and sound now (well, I am anyway.....Ben has another hour to go!)
Awful day - soaked through numerous times, the stuff we were promised wasn't as good as described and only once we'd gone 'beyond the point' with the front end panel swap did we find out that the headlamps had no mounting brackets, locators or clips....just the bowls! Zip tied headlamps FTW!
Then things went to pot with jammed shut bonnet (I mean JAMMED!) and non running engine. Throw in the most obnoxious/condesending AA man ever and having to diagnose & fix the problem for him it just became laughable.
A nice steady journey home with Jed a bit more chilled out.
All in all an epic day and one to remember! John & Rian, sorry about the genny - I guess fate was against us with that one!
Thanks again everyone - I'll update Bens Volvo thread tomorrow with some pics and details when I am awake.
Bruce.

One of those days indeed, I left Bridgwater at 6.40 this morning and got back to my flat in yeovil 10 mins ago, but still, a little bit of this, has given my car some extra awesome. Trust me, it wasn't as tidy or complete as it looks in this pic Thanks quite clearly go to Bruce and Jed, especially Jed, he was an awesome supervisor/leg warmer G'night chaps

I'm not one for making complaints, but that AA guy needs dealing with. he sounds like a clown. its not part of his job description to judge the car hes been called out to fix. and i usually expect them to know more than me. still, you're both home now. my contribution to the broken down pics. my SEC last year, after a wheel bearing collapse. fortunately i had just pulled out of the works carpark and was only doing around 15mph when it went.

Sorry to hear you had a shitter gents, good to hear you made it home (even if it was a rather long day!) I'm with the RAC & they give you an online survey to complete on their PDA while they unload ur car, thus giving instant feedback. Tbh I've never had anything but nice words as each time I've had to call them (quite a few, lol) they've been great! Even better than that is my Dad pays for the membership for my Bro's & I - I guess he got bored of late night phone calls for a tow home ;D Anyway, here's me arriving home from the Gathering: Juice + old CV joints = LOSE! HC.

Thanks for the support from everyone, let's not get bogged down in how shoddy the AA man was though. Every company has a clown/jobsworth/workshy pillock and in my case I got all three at once. The positives far outweigh the negatives. We were wet, annoyed, covered in oil, hundreds of miles from home.. but nothing good comes without a bit of effort. It just goes to show that the spirit of retro rides is alive and well, and being channeled into modifying old cars, just like it's meant to
