evening, I borrowed my mum's car tonight. 3 litre V6 Automatic Pajero. Used half a tank to do 118 miles. Most of that was on the motorway at 70 mph. That would suggest a tank range of just 200 - 250 miles.
That can't be right can it? overdrive was switched on.

Not a particularly relevant retro thread, but yeah, I can imagine that being about right. My 2.4td Hilux used to manage around 22mpg, however, it was running 33's and was a fair bit jacked up! Here we go, have some retro 4x4 auto lovelyness

My Rangie does 300 maybe 350 miles to a tank which is 110 litres...
so could be right, how large is the tank on a Pajero?

if its anything like the diesel one i had on the road, you are doing well! the 2.5 di autos are shockingly bad on juice, wouldnt imagine a 3.0v6 would be much more economical

I will get round to finishing it at some point

How do you know it used 1/2 a tank? How big is the tank?

My VW Bug seemed to be good for not much more than 200 miles per tank, but that was only using 35 litres of the 40 litre tank. I just put the second tank-full in my new Squareback today and although I haven't worked it out properly, it looks like the Square will be pushing it to make 200 miles on a 40L tank as well. Note that in something like a Landcruiser the tank is 130 litres or so, therefore the distance you can expect to get on "half a tank" really does depend on how big the tank is!

My brother has been a Shogun fan for about 6 years, and he reckoned the Petrol V engines aren't actually that much thirstier than the turbo diesels when driving normally. Bit different if hooning or towing a shed though. He is a shed puller hence wanting the diesel.
