Just wanted to see some of the ingenious ways in which RR members have moved cars/shells when the proper equipment was not available. As an example, here's a car I helped move today:
My friend bought a Niki 650 (aka Fiat 126) as a non-rolling shell and needed it moved to his house. The equipment: 6'x4' trailer and whatever we could find. Only three of us to move it. First theory was to pick it up and carry it, but it was a bit heavy. So, we picked up the back end and slid a trailer under it:
Note that it took us a long while to work out how to get to this stage. The car is wider than the trailer, so we filled the trailer with spare tyres to stop the sills being crushed. We ended up using nearly 20 spare tyres in the operation, which were conveniently lying around in the backyard! Note that we then lifted the front end and stacked five tyres under it to get it up above the edge of the trailer:
Safety first here! Plenty more heaving and pulling, including some involving two of us standing on the trailer and lifting the car whilst the third pushed the trailer backwards! Definitely not recommended, but it got the job done!
Then, simply pick up the drawbar and walk the trailer around the house to the car.
All hooked up and ready to go! Towed to the car's new home, now to get it off.
Oops! We dragged it about half way off, then the left sill fell off the trailer side and onto the tyres below. All worked out okay, with no noticeable damage. Then it was just a case of dragging it off a little further, lifting it up one corner at a time and stacking more tyres under it.
Then simply drive the trailer away!
Once again, don't try this at home for safety reasons! Wasn't too bad really because it was such a light car and we could lift/hold it okay. Then, simply remove the tyres one at a time.
Voila! Car shell relocated. We also brought over all the extra body panels in the car, and the suspension in a second trailer-load. The car is apparently destined for a bike engine transplant, and then some competition use! Can't wait.
