I suppose this realy is another moan about the scrappage scheme, but I went with a mate today to a couple of breakers to get some golf bits. Both the cars we saw were spotless, much better than the ones we were trying to save. This realy pisses me off. Mainly because I know people who are looking for similar cars and will pay good money, but there are none for sale.. The best standard mk2s ive ever seen were in a breakers one of them in a lovely metalic blue. Also somone I know traded in a mint big bumper GTI for a new Fiat. WTF? Give it a few years and the golfs value will be hgher than the new Fiat.. This happen to you?, feel good about saving somthing/ putting somthing back, only to see some idiot has undone your good?

Heard of a few old classics being chopped in. There are ways around the cars being stripped or crushed but it usually cost the 2k it owes... ultimatly it rarely happens...

The scrappy i use doesn't get scrapage cars in, so not normally a issue. they did use to have a couple of ok looking mk1 fiestas in there, by the hut where the staff sit. I used to think about asking if they could be sold whole but never did. years later i get on fairly well with the fella and asked him, he said they were but noone ever asked so they ended up in the main yard. Had a wonder and found the shell of one and it was incredably solid, but had a massive dent on the roof from being in the yard. Went to another local place we don't normally bother with and they had loads of scrapage in, couple of nice looking Jags, very clean escort cab and nice mk2 golf as well as some others. Its a crying shame, I don't get why people think new is always best

sadly this is noting new, just thatthere is a bit more with the scrapage cars now too i a while back i saw a extremely tidy saab 97 in my local yard, there was a guy there striping it, of everything who commented it was far better then the one he was fixing, few weeks before that there was a mint (and i mean mint) opel monza even the yard owner was a bit hacked off about it as it came in when he was out and they lifted it by the roof or he'd have had it himself. seen a fair few others too, including a mk1 cavi and a carlton 2000 i mean you never see those up here now Its more annoying when you cant find a half decent car (whatever model) anywhere and you see them in the scrapyard, but you cant have them, was looking for a winter hack for ages (sorted now) and couldn't find anything dirt cheap, yet plenty in the yard that didn't need a lot for a mot :/
