hiya chaps, need to work out how many tyres I can fit into a LWB van.. I want approx 300 and going over to collect at weekend. tyre diameter approx. 20". How would I work out how many I can fit in a van?
LWB van is approx. 1.7m in width and height and 3.5m in length. Any help much appreciated. winner gets title of very clever person.

if the tyre width is 20", how thick are they ? you need to take each tyre as a rectangular cuboid IIRC and just calculate the available area in the van

If you allow 25cm for the width of each tyre I reckon you'd get about 80 in? Mind you I've had a few beers so that may miles off!
This number may go up as you save a little due to the fact they aren't cuboid, but may go down as you can pretty much guarantee they won't fit perfectly floor to roof!

Most tyre places stack them diagonally alternating in their vans/trucks - almost in a herringbone pattern. Seems to squeeze more in than just stacking them vertical/horizontal.

20" diameter seems a bit small for an average of 300 tyres? A 175/50 13 tyre which is about as small as they get is 19.89" tall for example.

I know you can fit over 23 15 inch alloy wheels in a vauxhall combo van and still have room for a dog to travile safe in the back and then some ;D

Don't stack them, lace them across the floor. Sort of like this but horizontally

Don't stack them, lace them across the floor. Sort of like this but horizontally That's exactly what I was trying to explain above....but couldn't find a pic (which does a far better job than the explanation I gave ) I've seen vans with that method of stacking in row after row....you probably get nearly double the tyres in that way compared to stacking them normally.
