Hi, I been looking on retro rides site for a while. And decided it was about time I joined, and posted a bit about my current ride & project!!! Originally my brother got this 19 by chance, he found it at a scrap yard shoved in with a load of other cars. Ready to be stripped of it's wheels, and fluids, my brother decided there an then the car was just too good to suffer this terrible fate!! So he spoke to a friend at the scrap yard, who said he could put it to one side while he made inquiries. All my brother had to do was find the keys, after rummaging through the box the keys were found!! And the Renault started 1st turn of the key!! he moved it to a safer area. While negotiations were made about the car, a week later the car was ours even tho the price was a little steep!! Turns out the car was a carb 1.4 energy model, and had only two previous owners on the log book. And even had a new looking front exhaust section!! Here's some pics below of the car as purchased: Not bad considering it was going to end up in the crusher!!

I cannot understand why people will want to scrap a car in this condition.

Thanks for all the compliments !! got to thank my brother really for saving it. Without wanting to sound like some eco warrior, it's terrible I think that we live in such a wastefull society that a perfectly good car was going to be crushed. I just took it on as it was sitting in a mates garage, as my brother didn't have a real need for another car but saved it anyway!! The alloys are gone!! they were in terrible conditon an wasn't doing anything for the cars appearence. And isn't the look I'm going for, got some modest plans for it!! Yeah the numberplates are very retro, shame you can't get them with that font anymore!

So with the car safely at my friends, i decided that id take it on an get it Mot'd. Failed as follows * O/s bottom ball joint worn * Center exhaust section holed * Front coil springs broken!! * Rear brakes insufficient operation So with the new bits fitted, it got a fresh MOT for another 12mths!! & 6mths bandit tax...err i mean road tax!!! The garage even complimented me on it's condition, so was worth while the effort. Changed the oil as it was black!! and too thin as the engine rattling alot!! A oil flush & some quality 15w40 sorted that!! Anyway decided the alloys were rubbish, and needed binning off at the 1st opportunity! So i bought some steelies with good tyres and some trims for now, id love to go and buy some Ronal turbo alloys or some turbines. As i quite like the euro look, but budget and lack of power steering dictate otherwise!! Here's how it's looking with the steelies:

That's a shocker, being sent for scrap. I've sent plenty of cars off the the scrappy, but never remotely looking in as good a condition as that.
I hope to see that car knocking around on here for many years to come.

I hope to see that car knocking around on here for many years to come. Yeah the worst thing is i regularly see many good cars scrapped, for instance i seen a absolutely mint inside and out 1990 Vw Polo ( breadvan shape ) in a yard in Telford. Only 56k on the clocks, there from a Scrappage scheme by looks of it. Just criminal i think!! I got to be honest my brother was right to save it, i use it everyday and it looks and drives great. Ive been back to the same scrap yard since, and they always ask how I'm going with it!! Cheers, it's a keeper so you'll be seeing more of it!!

Agreed I reckon some turbines would be great with a drop, sadly they attract a fair price premium these days!! But who knows ill keep an eye out, an we'll see what turns up!! In the meantime ive got myself some bargain period 13 inch Renault speedline's, just need a complete refurb before they go on.

Have fun with the refurb, could be tricky with all those spokes. Make sure you take plenty of "in progress" pics and post up after they're done.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to refurbishing them, going to be a pain but it'll look great with them on. Will definately take some pics as i go with it, so you'll see them as they get transformed!! And then finally on the car ;D

Top save!!! Can't believe that was going to be crushed!! Am liking the alloys. Cheers i couldn't beleive it either, better than it being cubed!! I thought the alloys were a bit diffrent, an certainly more in my budget than a set of turbines would be!! I wanted to get them polished but there not in good enough condition for that, so doing a diy job in a nice sparkily silver. ( Thats sparkily not glittery by the way!! )

get them bead blasted. it'll cost a bit more than free, but it'll be worth it. after that, then painting will be easy. plus they'll get on quicker then, and they will make the car much much prettier

If not then ill cough up an break into the piggy bank, anything to make a job easier!! And quicker, plus like you say the car will definately look alot nicer with them on ;D
