lovely cars, I had a 350SL, very solidly built, heavy though so not fast or economical, its rust thats the killer for these, beware of cheap paint jobs hiding a mess underneath, mechanical parts are pretty strong, some bits of trim can be dear, a hardtop is worth its weight in gold and makes the car useable all year round, you need two people to remove it though and somehwere dry to store it. here my old one with me mate sitting in it, it died of terminal rot round the rear suspension and had been suffering with worn out bushes for ages before that, I got it cheap as I knew it wasnt a good un.

prices might have changed in the 5 years or so since i had it, mine was about 2 and a half grand, ones that looked in similar condition on top were about twice that, mine had had a shiny but thin paint job and a good valet so it actually looked pretty good, came with a hardtop but the folding hood was shagged out. It did me for a year of fun but would have been a serious money pit to put right, one of those cars that would have started with, "i'll just plate that small hole, slightly bigger hole, large hole, fit new floorpans, new inner wings, oh theres plod in that wing, and quarter and under that headlight, now the bumpers don't look good enough, and the interiors a bit worn and it need a decent paint job" etc etc.

Stiff, I do like the coupe's as well, just that I think a convertable for summer use is better for us, especially witha hard top.
Great pics, love them modded.

i prefer the looks of the SLC, but i would only own an SLC if i could afford to have an SL as well, nothin like charging up Upminster high street, roof down with Souxie and the banshees playing loud, dressed in full goth/ blonde straveller haired punk attire being followed by half a dozen outlaw bikers cos they got lost and your all your late for your mates mums funeral.

I've got a sneaky feeling that the W and R relate to the body. W - Wagon? R - Roadster? Could be completely wrong but Flickr searches brought up mainly hardtops for the W and mainly soft tops for the R. thats correct, if you're wanting to be specific, and C obviously being for the coupes. i, too, prefer the SLC over the SL, I'm not a wind in your barnet sort of guy.
