I appologise in advance as this will probably decend into a bitchfest but it is information that may be of use to some and will be very important to others
if you are buying new or bringing in from abroad a vehicle, if that car is for a wheelchair user then it is possible to buy/import with no vat being payable, also any spares/parts for that vehicle are not liable for vat, and as long as that vehicle is still for the use of the wheelchair user all spares/repairs are not vat liable
so if you brought in a tasty piece of american tin with a modification, with a container full of spares for that vehicle provided it was for a wheelchair user and was "adapted" prior to import no vat is payable
that adaption can be as minor as a knob on the steering wheel but any adaption has to be bolted or welded to the vehicle
but once the vehicle is in the country the wheelchair user can then sell the car to anyone
in case anyone thinks I am disabled bashing please be aware my son is disabled (but not in a wheel chair so I cant get myself a nice vat free import plus i havent enough pennies)
also a couple of people I know with disabled children were unaware of the vat exemption on spares/servicing
ttfn glenn
