Here she is, 1.3 pure pov spec power! As per this thread: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=66872&page=1 I got this car from Freecycle and now it is not raining, managed to have a reasonable look around her! A better pic of the car: And under the bonnet: The oil is in great nick and it has not done a lot of miles since the last change and the old boy even put a gaiter around the dizzy! I did this on my mini years ago using zip ties and a marigold! The only rust bleb that I can find is here: Other issues with the car are pretty minor... Just a passenger side wing mirror, a glovebox lid and a new bootlock are all that spring to mind! On the plans side, I am not entirely sure which way to go about it - MOAR POWAH is going to be on the cards as it is only going to be a runaround until we buy a newer family car and then it becomes my project car! Bigger wheels from another Pug is on the cards and I don't fancy going too low so I might start with some 306 GTi shocks with lowering springs similar to Adams RG or there is a cheep coilover set on fleabay for 160 notes or so... Bigger brakes from a 307 or similar is on the cards also. I think that I will clean up the bodywork and delete the side strips and fit a gti front bumper if I can find one... White will probably stay as cash is very tight on this build. Engine wise, I am not sure... 16v engines are big monies and I am considering an 8v turbo petrol one from a Xantia or similar. Any suggestions gratefully received. Interior will get some more supportive seats from something and extra dash gauges from a 205 GTi and other than that, I am not really sure... Photoplops and ideas are more than welcome! Grazi. Rysz.

Its unfortunately not that straightforward to fit an XU engine (309 >= 1.6, GTi's, Xantia Turbo, diesels) in a car with a TU lump (which you have).
Basically everything is different, driveshafts, wheel hubs, subframe, etc... And I think there's even some difference in the engine mounting points on the body. Basically swapping stuff within the TU family is easy as is swapping stuff within the XU family.
For an engine donor I'd be looking at the 306 which came with a 1.6 16V TU engine if I'm not mistaking (pay attention as most older 1.6 Peugeot/Citroën engines are XU's (1580cc)).

Being a 1.3 its going to be the old XY family engine. Therefore converting to a TU engine is going to be almost as much of a pain I expect. Get that thing slammed on 106 rallye steels immediately ;D

Yes, 1.3 is an XY, but I thought they only made that up to 1989. Therefore I assumed it was an 1.4 as I've seen people refer to them as 1.3's quite often possibly because of the TU3 name. But maybe the topic starter can shed some light on this... or we can just see wants the under bonnet pic starts to work. Don't they have the old OHV Horizon engine fitted? Yes, that's an XY.

Glad you found no rust Rysz! So it really is as tidy as it looked in the dark last night?! Excellent. ;D I don't understand Peugeot engine codes at all, but ^^they^^ seem to know what they're talking about... hopefully a suitable engine can be found which fits fairly easily!

Pics are up now - Yay!
If necessary, I will source the subframe etc to fit an XU, but wheels / brakes / suspension are priority...
The V5 states 1294CC so I am assuming that it will have the sewing machine from Talbot!
Thanks for the input so far.
Rysz.

A broken glovebox in a 309, well i never!!
Can't beat 'em, bulletproof the old 309s, boiled linseed oil on the plastic bumpers will make it look alot better.

That's indeed the old Talbot engine... meaning its as Adam said probably equally difficult to fit a TU as an XU... I don't know if anything more powerful fits out of the box with the XY surroundings.
Every XU engined 309 will make it easier to swap parts, but note that only diesels and 1.9 GTi's have a better suspension setup (proper triangular wishbones).

It will be lower with those rims but with the rims black or dark gunmetal. Now on the lookout for an engine. Needs to be an XU family, any ideas or even better, engines that I can buy? Thanks. Rysz.

I nearly got a 309 in diesel flavour for commuting before I got my passat. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do!

Thats weird it has the same mounting points as the TU, but the engine looks like the old XY.. with it having the TU/XU top engine mount, you cant put pretty much what ever you want in it
