Edd, you should rename it - Piston' Broke Motors!
You should have done this when I had my gti, you could have fixed it for me but its a good idea, if you were closer then it would be a bit more use for me though....

good luck with ur idea lads, but be very carefull as your opening up a can of worms, most garages (shud!!) have a traders policy, building insurance policy etc, that covers if theres a fire and someones car gets torched or if a car gets stolen from your garage, also offering services on cars, consider if the brakes fail in an accident etc......
not questioning your mechanical skills, but this was something i looked into doing a while back and to do it properly is going to cost you a small fortune.

Public liability insurance, health and safety legislation, business rates, VAT, Tax etc etc. Be very careful how you do this. Perhaps if people just pay you for the cost of materials etc and you don't make any profit? That way you can say you're just helping friends using your equipment and skills but not for profit. If these friends then want to gift you some cash, just because they want to of course!, then that's up to them.

yeah i tried this.... public liability insurance unless its strictly a mates rates cash in hand thing (which is illegal unless you have another tax paying job) iirc great idea tho and as long as everyones comfortable with the set up before work commences i couldnt see a problem... just don't set fire to the car
