Ok so the rear bumper on the smurf is shagged, its made out of woodscrews and spaff, with a poor coat of blue paint. I like the look of the fibreglass bumper, but I'm not sure if it demotes the car from genuine plop to chavspec. Original bumper: Fibreglass bumper: Vote away, hivemind!

Option five: Get a standard bumper back on and paint it it, then remove the sideskirts.

Thats a good option, I'm worried if I do that it might demonstrate a lack of sills, certainly they aren't painted the same blue as the rest of the car.
Also there is a fibreglass lip grafted to the front bumper giving it a lower stance there too.

Defo original bumper. I might be tempted to get grey ones and some "Spree" or "Debut" decals for that 100% sleeper look!

Also there is a fibreglass lip grafted to the front bumper giving it a lower stance there too. Lowness comes from suspension! The old adage applies: If there's room for a bodykit, there was room to lower it more.

At last I've found a thread truly deserving of this picture. I voted for stock bumper, body colour earlier.

I've not fitted the front up yet. but the engine alone is a 10mm drop.
I had toyed with fitting gt bumpers all round, I've a smooth one in grey primer here too.
I'll upload a pic of my old gt5 tonight.

What will cost you? Wouldn't you rather use those pennies on uprated lower springs etc...? I'd be looking at improving what's underneath first - then annoying the unsuspecting as often as possible ;D

GRP bumper, paint it, so long as you have something suitable up front to ballance it, much lowness, job done.

Option 5. Smurfs have white trousers do they not? add the new rear bumper and then paint it and the skirts (and probably front valance/bumper?) in white! Failing that Bruc'es mockup loks OK to me

Right, well I've uprated shocks and springs (40 or 50mm +10mm i think)to go on, and running saxo vt* struts, This is my old gt5 running leda coilovers upfront (could have been lower to be honest) and a rally spec rear axle: The handling was good up until you went into the brakes too hard whereupon it would just swap ends. Ferret, I like the sound of the white thing, but it might be ott given that most of the bonnet is red.

I would like to retract my vote for "original bumper" and go with Smelleyferret's option ;D
And if the bonnet is red, why not go for red bumpers for the Papa Smurf look?

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

You're going about this all wrong!! Have some inspration: Decide what you want the car to be.....then the choice of bumper will be a LOT easier! My p/shop of the blue bumper wasn't my endorsement of it....just showing others what it would look like. I vote for either; FULL ON rally style (like ^above^) or 100% Povo spec with black bumpers, silver steelie's, bump strips, bump strips on doors, very subtle drop. Proper rally is fave right this moment, but that will probably change in 5 mins, then 5 mins after that ad infinitum. Aesthetically, you need to decide and let us know what you want from the car as a whole?? Choosing a rear bumper is impossible when we don't know what you've got planned for the rest?

My reason for building the car is just for fun and a bit of a distraction;
I'm feeling increasingly trapped in my job and house, I wanted to be getting on with having the house sold and working on the new one, but it is not to be.
It has left me so frustrated because there are so many projects I've put off until we've got moved and I'm reluctant to do anymore on our current house as it really doesn't need anything save for a lick of paint here and there.
So the ax popped up on ebay and was bought outside of the auction for £100, because it was local and looked like it could do with rescuing. I've worked on it steadily since I bought it.
The idea was to build it ready for next year's practical performance car 999 challenge.
The current speclist is as follows:
'98 Vtr engine & gearbox, 67k Gmax shocks all round, spax springs, poowerflow exhaust, miltek 421 manifold, pipercross filter, citroen 14" alloys with 185/55 14 tyres, saxo vtr suspension & brakes all round ebay cheapy steering wheel.
The car and the above stands be at £142
I was tempted to go for the rally look, but that contradicts the bonnet and the fact the shell is a 5 door, its not really rat look, its more craplook.
I just want it to be reasonable looking (3 mile metre rule!), but I'm not that good with tying one look up well.
Wow, essay!

Povo spec sleeper then. Easy to get the parts (most standard black bumpers seem to go for £0.02!) and the rest will follow. Keep it simple, keep it Q car and start scaring the locals when you open up the taps
