for £2350 reserve not met I'm wondering if thats still a good buy or not. I'm going with the "not". You can get a good Fox platform Mustang for 'bout half that with a V8. Not pretty cars but dynamically very good potential. Please tell me where?, if I could get a good GT or LX 5.0 for £2k I'd be over the moon! I dunno how decent they were because I didn't go see them but there have been a number on eBay and the other usual listings, usually convertibles oddly enough, but I saw 3 in a week for £1200 type money. All pre facelift ones. The 4 pot ones seem to struggle to sell for £500. I ignored one for sale in Derby several times last summer. Facelifted ones are more, a bit more.

so you want a car thats slow, uneconomical and 'not as pretty as the first mustang', still its better than the fox imo, how is it humanly possible to get so little horsepower from any of those engines? really?

They were de-tuned engines at the behest of government orders to comply with sudden mileage and emissions regulations. Not phased in. Dumped on the carmakers. Plus ins cos refused to insure cars with high HP. Plus fuel prices had tripled and rationing was used for a time (even license plates one day, odd the next, for example). You wanted to sell new cars in USA in 1974? They had to meet these new market factors. Factory engineers didn't suddenly "forget" how to make HP. They were told to do the opposite, and to do it using existing engine families in production, incrementally. Result = Mess.

Here are a couple proper Mustang II's. The first (white) is Charlie Kemp's IMSA racecar. The second (yellow) is NZ PDL Team's Kemp-inspired car with Gurney-Weslake power. Charlie got his to 212MPH at Daytona in the late 70's. *pictures of mustangs* Now we're talking, those are hard as nails

still its better than the fox imo rusts worse than the Fox, handles worse than the Fox, slower as stock, has less aftermarket support than the Fox, more expensive to buy than the Fox... Hmmmm....

It's better looking than the fox though. the fox looks like a sierra coupe imo, personally I'm not a Yanktank man. But I do love the 1980's El Dorado and the Ghostbusters one (el dorado again?)

ghostbusters is I believe a Cadillac Superior (coach built ambulance on commercial chassis).
Looks-wise Mustang II vs Fox is a personal thing. The Fox is the technically better car but as for looks? Personal choice. I don't think there's much in it myself.

Oh, yeh, saw those tbh!, I'm a bit picky though, it's gotta be a late (post facelift) hatch GT or LX with a 5 spd.. They tend to be around 3-4k, still a fair price imo, though I've missed quite a few thru being too damn slow on the uptake... back OT-

I know of one sat outside a house near my uncles place... Might get it cheap, if rumours are right. Ugly thing though! A coupe shape... How would one go forth with V8-ing it with a proper machine? Whats the PCD on them? Would need a lot of poke and stretch to have it not look like it has curled its legs up under it! ;D

Hey Hirst you've stirred up a right hornet's nest. I suggest you declare you've love for the Hyundai SCoupe next.
I would prefer a Fox to a Mustang II, but the II has the 1970s 'naffness/coolness' down pat.
For a cheap 'stang, I would probably vote for the 94' onwards one. Screw that, I'd just wait until the 2004 onwards ones became cheapish TBH. I guess a couple of years and they will be cheaper than a good Mk2 Escort, even in the UK!
