Hey guys,
I thought I had SU Carbs sussed, but I don't want to go messing with it until I'm 100% sure of what I'm doing.
A while back I fitted a full maniflow exhaust and LCB to my otherwise standard 998cc. Ever since, the power ( ) has moved really high up the rev range and you really have to drive around with your foot down or it coughs and splutters. When you pull away it'll not pull very well until you get about halfway up the rev range (I have no idea what RPM, Boggo spec with no rev guage) and then you get all the power in one big lump.
I can only think its because of the exhaust and I havent done anything to fuelling.
I have been thinking about getting a K'n'N element for the standard airbox and getting the right profile needle but in the meantime could I make it any better by setting the carb up better?
My understanding is that to check the mixture, you lift the lifting pin on the carb. If the revs rise, the mixture is too rich, if the revs fall, its too lean and if the revs rise for a second, then drop back to idle, the mixture is right.
Am I correct?
If so, when I lift the lifting pin at the moment, the revs go down so much the engine almost stalls.
Would it be worth it to get a K'n'N filter element and new needle and set it up properly? Bearing in mind that with the exhaust already on there, it'll be a full stage 1 kit?
Have some pictures of the car in question for your efforts.
Cheers,
Edd
