Just got back from our summer holiday in the van, 2980 miles in 3 weeks! Maybe more work than I anticipated. The Van went well apart from when it sucked up some dirt into the carb whist climbing the Sutsen pass in switzerland (2225 Metres above sea level) a good hour of climbing in second gear at 30 mph, it was the second climb of the day (oberalp pass was the first) we limped it to a nearby town and I got a can of carb cleaner and cleaned it all out on a campsite. Amazing scenery, kind of reminded me of a computer racing game.
I also put a dent in the back door on the penultimate day when reversing into a clearly marked parking space that had a bollard placed in the centre of it (should have look at the space first)
We visited Belguim, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Lake Constance, Switzerland and then back to France and over to the atlantic coast and up to Brittany to visit my Mum and Dad in Melrand then back home Via Dunkirk/Dover and stopped off in Bedford (no, really!) to visit an old Volvo mate of mine.
Only saw 2 other CFs the whole time we were away, one CF2 coachbuilt in central France and one CF coachbuilt about 5 miles from home before we go back.
Lake Constance (its big!)
Alpen Foothills
Climbing the Susten pass
At the top
Campsite, 1 of 14)
French army trucks anyone?
This guy had a few spare (about 1000 in all)
The Scenery in Switzerland was freaking awesome but expensive to buy food but fuel was about 70 a litre and the campsites were cheap too. we wanted to go to Lauter Brunnen/Interlaken and see the Eiger but as the van was playing up and our nerves had been jangled by the two passes we climbed we decided to give it a miss and show the van some mercy so we headed for France.
Northern Luxemburg was good for driving round, worth considering as an alternative to France/belguim for a change.
Driving vid to follow soon.
