This conversation was truly hilarious.
I like nothing more than self expression and if people like venoms then fine. Personally I hate them. I remember quite clearly that it was the very moment TSW launched the venom that I stopped buying Max Power, I saw the light and my life was changed forever. For this reason only do I have a smidgen of respect for them. As for retro..NO! Not even in an ironic way.
A mate had a brand new prelude in the 90's, low on 3 spokes. First one I saw like and it looked awesome, for a couple of weeks.

I think Venoms are smart in an ironic 90's way. I am confused as to how a wheel could ever be ironic... "It's like 10,000 Venoms, when all you need is a knife..."? Anyway, I used to think TSW Imolas looked smart on just about anything, I never understood why people went for Hockenheims when they could have had Imolas... Stick a set on an appropriately slammed mid-'90s saloon and you've got a super-low rent BTCC replica: See? Works with Oz Superturismos and Team Dynamics Monzas too. Now I'm not so sure about my first theory though: Good Good Bad Bad Evos are pretty smart, Stealths look a bit like Escort Cosworth wheels, Venoms I could happily never see on a car ever again.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I quite like Venoms. Someone mentioned this car earlier... Looks good imo. Thing is, I only really got into the car scene as these wheels were at their popularity peak, so I see them in a slightly nostaligic way. No photos sadly, but favourites included a friends super-low mkII fiesta, very glossy red, smoothed almost euro look and on 3-spokes. Another chap had a silver CRX on momo arrows, that looked the absolute tits, its stance was perfect.

I think Venoms can work on the right car with the right stance . The red corrado built funnily enough by VW pasts suppliers Venom was slammed on them and looked great ;D

TSW Venoms were iconic 10 years ago, Every G boy in Essex would of had a set on they Nova/R5 GT turbo's and all the Max Power and Fast Car mags were full of them. I remember having a Mk4 Escort RS Turbo come into work once which had a set of 17" Vemons fitted that he had took chucks out of from the kerbs, They had only been fitted a week, Plus the arches had cut all the tyres where the lips hadn't been rolled, Hence why it was in at the bodyshop. Personally though i think 3 spokes are due a big come back, The car park at RRG10 will be full of cars with 3 spokes!

My Chevette has a set of 15" TSW imolas on at the mo did they just do em in one size or was there ever any with some dish? cant help thinkin the same design with some mean dish would actually look good "on somthing" No idea really, but Schmidt do a VN-Line, which is a similar design, and can look pretty damn tasty if you ask me A quick browse of Ebay.de revealed these -

Speaking about 90s wheels, I have a question... How about 100+ Penta? Are they considered 80s or 90s wheels? I remember them being very popular here in the 90s (can't speak for the 80s as I were only 3 when the 80s came to an end), but we might as well have been a bit "late" when it came to car styling here... It seems like that what the young boys always were dreaming about back then in my region, was a 300D W123, facelift model with window tint and 100+ pentas... But maybe they are earlier? Anybody here that knows when they came out and how long they were made? Another popular wheel around here, especially on Volvo 100-200-700-series, was the JP Mk18 In 8,5x17" they are pure porn, and since they haven't been produced for many years, to get a set, you have to pay the double value of the taxed and MOTed Volvo 240 that you're going to put them on, to get them.

I remember that car, it was owned by a chap called 'Evil' on Migweb. Probably the best example, I always though they were early 00's, and not 90's?? I'd say they were subtle compared to the complete disasters that are sold today!! I can see them appearing in 20 years time on a lowered Calibra.

I have two mates with mk2 golfs. one on 17" arrows which I think looks gash (partly because they're 17"s & partly cos they're arrows) and another mate with matt black 15" venoms (was at the gathering... 1.8 on bike carbs) which I think look pretty cool...
....if they were stock unpainted & unbattered then noooo but battered & painted matt black yeeeeees!

16"+ Venoms = win IMHO - on the right car, of course! A mate of mine had one of the first sets of 17" Venoms, on a near-new Laguna, and at the time it was awesome. Loads of those old wheels were actually cool designs, I think they just suffer "guilt by association" with the '90s boy racers. There are my Stealths - bought brand new in 2000, had 'em on a red Sierra Sapphire. They've been on that blue Sapphire since 2001, and soon they'll be on my 3-door. 7x15s of course - what's not to like? ;D I'd love a set of white 17" Imolas for the Sapphire, but if some Venoms turned up, well....

....I think they just suffer "guilt by association" with the '90s boy racers. So did the Nova and look how cool they are now! ....I rest my case. Jonny, I do happen to have a set of 17" Venoms in mint condition. There are two downsides though: 1) They are 4x100, so won't fit your 4x108 Fords! 2) I'm not selling them anyway because I bought them to be fitted to one of my projects with the sole intention of proving the haters that they can work bloody well on the right car with the right stance.

Have some 17" Venom awesomness - ready and waiting for some rubber: Can't wait to get them fitted! BTW - back in the day I used to hate these things with a passion.....along with the associated 'boy racer' image, but now I am more than happy to roll them on something that does not resemble a maxxed out Clio etc... As for 3 spoke wheels, just you wait to see what else I've got stored down at Area52 ;D

Haha! I took this photo at VW action 08. I really wasn't sold on the wheels, even if they were painted black. Sorting that stance on that Golf would take it much closer to being acceptable, but still... they were just naff in person. Just not my cup of tea.

Anyway, I used to think TSW Imolas looked smart on just about anything, I never understood why people went for Hockenheims when they could have had Imolas... OK help me out here, there was a wheel, also a TSW I think that was very similar to above but with less spoked, and the actual face was flat so the rim ran into the flat spokes all the way across to the other side. The bolts where hidden behind a slightly recessed cover and I thought the wheel was the nuts!
