Model: L300 Mitsubishi Delica 2.5TD Year: 1992 (J REG) Mileage: 146k KM (about 100k Miles) Tax: End of August 2009 MOT: July 2010 SOLD SOLD SOLD (paid and picked up) Additional Information: OK, for sale is my L300 Delica which I have owned for over a year now. (This belonged to Mystery Machine who I see is also a member here!) Details: - 2.5TD - Lifted 1" with shackles on the rear and tortion bars cranked up on the front (and re-indexed). - Rear interior has been removed and panelled out with ply. The floor has foam under it to cut down noise and the sides have been carpet covered. There is also a removable 'ammo box' (It is a genuine military shipping crate!) that is useful for storage. - All of the A/C system has been removed. This and the interior removal saves weight, increases BHP slightly and accounts for about another 1" of 'free' bodylift (Yep lift not slam!!) - MOT/service done last month, new track rod ends at the front, new exhaust/turbo gasket. Advisories are: Stonechip in the windscreen and rusty rear shock cover. - Starts on the button and pulls well. - Genuine 'rough look', mismatched mirrors, covered in scratches and dents giving it a very genuine rat look. - Tyres all have decent tread - Rare chrome dial cover set fitted - MP3, USB, CD player included - Modified arches so that 31" wheels/tyres can be fitted (Current tyres are 29") - EGR blanking plate fitted. Problems: - Rust on the roof at the front (covered with gaffer tape!). - Front PIAA Spots not wired in. - 4x4 system is broken (2wd works absolutely fine - it went through the MOT like this) (It clunks loudly when under strain) I've had the following done to try and fix this: Replaced split front CV gator and had the front drive shafts checked, Replaced the auto free hubs, had the rear 'spider' on the main driveshaft from the transmition to the front. None of this has solved the problem and the best guess so far is that something in the transmission is broken.. - Some road noise from the tyres at about 50mph+ - Speedo still in kph (passed MOT like this) - Genuine 'rough look', mismatched mirrors, covered in scratches and dents giving it a very genuine rat look - Only a problem if you don't like the look! I'll include a spare alloy, a set of carpets (none currently fitted) and some spare bits and bobs. I also have a list of things done to it previously including: * Complete front brake overhaul (calipers rebuilt, new pads) – March 08 * New alternator – April 08 * New radiator – April 08 * New battery – April 08 * New waterpump & thermostat – April 08 I'll miss this van but I need something better on MPG and I lack the tools and space to continue work on the 4x4 system. I'd consider swaps for estates / small vans / pickups I also have a set of black Pajero Alloys with almost brand new 31" Mudgrabber tyres that could be included for another £200 Please ask questions (I'm sure I've forgotten things), I also use this van as my daily drive so milage may be slightly higher. I'm off work this week If you want to view.

this may be an obvious question but when it's in 2WD - is it RWD ? I have too many cars and nowhere to put another would you swap/px with a 95 subaru legacy ? also, do you have a tow bar for it ?

Hi Dan, Sorry to hear you're selling the Delica! Spiny, yes the Deli is RWD when in 2WD mode. I can source all the parts quite easily to get this running 4x4 again (Dan, you should have let me know? ) Here is some further info I added in the eBay section where it is also linked: ^^ If anyone is thinking of buying this, it's had a lot of work done to it 'under the surface' The list of all new parts fitted in 08 was done by me, the turbo was also rebuilt along with new timing belt & balance belts in Aug 07 and the lift was done properly by me with custom shackles, relocated brake lines, modified bump stops, re-indexed torsion bars etc....The only thing that I didn't get around to doing was to remove the rear anti-roll bar.....but Dan might have done that since he bought it?? It's a 10 min job to do and gives better rear articulation yet doesn't affect the handling/ride in the slightest (I know this because I have done it to my current work/off-road Delica) If anyone is interested in this vehicle, please let me know and I can give you a full and thorough run down of it. I can also source a good front axle v.cheap which is the most likely candidate for the 4WD problem. This is a very good motor (workhorse/off-roader) for the money, built/modified by me to be properly used. It's got a few scratches from off-roading but get it muddy and it looks better for it. The rust on the roof honestly isn't too much to worry about - a lot of high roof Delica's suffer from this. Have some pics of me putting it though its paces: ....and one of the many vids: Someone please buy this and have some fun with it?? ;D ;D

Hi Dan, 1) Sorry to hear you're selling the Delica! ( you should have let me know? ) Here is some further info I added in the eBay section where it is also linked: 2) ^^ If anyone is thinking of buying this, it's had a lot of work done to it 'under the surface' 3) The only thing that I didn't get around to doing was to remove the rear anti-roll bar.....but Dan might have done that since he bought it?? 4) I can also source a good front axle v.cheap which is the most likely candidate for the 4WD problem. 5) This is a very good motor (workhorse/off-roader) for the money, built/modified by me to be properly used. It's got a few scratches from off-roading but get it muddy and it looks better for it. 6) The rust on the roof honestly isn't too much to worry about - a lot of high roof Delica's suffer from this. Someone please buy this and have some fun with it?? ;D ;D Bruce! I’ve chopped up your post a bit to answer it better! 1) Yep I’ll be sad to see it go .. I Didn’t have any contact details for you and I only joined RR after I decided to sell.. 2) I have your original advert still – I’ll post up a copy.. 3) Anti roll bar mod not done. I was running 31” tyres on Paj alloys with the current lift and that was fine for me so I didn’t see the need to mod the ride more! 4) Although I bow to you vastly superior deli knowledge.. I’m still inclined to think it’s the transmission. The 4x4 noise can be made to happen when in 4x4, at rest, with some handbrake and revs. The noise happens more in 4x4low than 4x4hi for about the same revs.. This is why I think its transmission (an ex VW greasemonkey mate also thinks the same). If it can be fixed easily/cheaply then I’ll happily do it! 5) Totally agree Its no family wagon, It’s a fun wagon! 6) Agreed! (The rust was on it when I bought it off Bruce over a year ago, its not got much worse at all) Some more pics (I seem very bad at getting action shots – sorry!) Old Monkey with the 31” Mudder on (and showing how it wont fit in my garage!) Slightly flooded 'road': Dan

Please excuse my double post (lot of info to place up!)
Here is the list of work from Bruce's original advert (I took a copy at the time and this is cut n pasted): * Complete service (oil & oil filter, air filter, fuel filter etc…) with all joints and friction parts checked and greased and the gearbox oil changed - Sept 07 * New timing/cam belt and balance belts – Sept 07 * Turbo rebuild (new bearings) – Sept 07 * New front brake hoses – Sept 07 * New drive belts (alternator, power steering) – Sept 07 * New rocker gasket and ‘D’ seal – Sept 07 * New wheel bearings - March 08 * New auto locking front hubs – March 08 * Complete front brake overhaul (capliers rebuilt, new pads) – March 08 * New alternator – April 08 * New radiator – April 08 * New battery – April 08 * New waterpump & thermostat – April 08 * New top hose – April 08
Other things I have done to the vehicle:
* Re-indexed torsion bars * Proper 1” suspension lift with heavy duty longer rear shackles and modified bump stops * Wheel arches cut/trimmed to take 31” tyres * Removed the complete AC system front and rear (lots of benefits!) * Removed the compete rear interior to make the most of the rear space (camping & carrying lots of stuff) * Modified the AT cooling system to make it easier to work on in future * Fitted EGR blanking plate
(I should probably add that an oil change, brake fluid topup and gear oil check was done just pre the last MOT)

A few questions... 1) How long could one run it in 2wd mode before it went pop? 2) Is it registered to have seats in the back? ie as a minibus or a van? 3) Would my Mazda interest you?
I have been after something van shaped but different, and this could be just the thing.

I have been after something van shaped but different, and this could be just the thing. 1) I don't believe anything is wrong with the 2wd drive part, I've done several long drives in it like that (from Taunton down to the south coast in Dorset and back - around 100 miles in total each time) and its been fine. I personnally would not be worried about driving it to essex! 2) Yes, The mounts for the rear bench seat / belts are still there and so could bolt one of those in rather easily, the mid seats (captain chairs) would need the runners etc to fit them so would be a bit more work but the bits could probably be sourced from a scrapper. It would involve removing / modifying the ply floor too. 3) I do like the look of the Mazda... Is there a thread with more details? Dan

I have been after something van shaped but different, and this could be just the thing. Hi Alan, Just to clarify the points made by Dan (StinkyFerret ) 1) This will run perfectly in 2WD 'forever' - after speaking to Dan yesterday it sounds like the issue might be with the drive gear in the transfer case which has nothing to do with running it in 2WD. If you're not bothered about 4WD, then if I was buying it I would remove the front propshaft (10 mins) put a blanking plug/cap over the prop output and run it like that.....eventually removing the front axle, locking hubs etc...to save a lot of weight. If you're thinking of keeping the 4WD and getting it working again then I can do my best to source a good transfer box. Between myself and my best mate (who was at the Pod but not sure if I introduced you) we probably have more chance of sourcing one than anyone else in the UK 2) The car is registered as a standard Delica so putting seats back in is simply a case of bolting them in. No legal/registration issues involved. As Dan has said, all the mounts for the rear bench seat are there and exposed and it would take no more than 5 mins max to refit a rear seat (lift seat in, eight bolts.....done!) No mods needed....just fit it straight in. You'd also need to get some seatbelts fitted (3 point ones each side - the rear bench comes with a lap belt in the middle seat) but the mounts and apertures are all there....you just need to cut a slot in the side panel for the belt to come through (I can supply you a template to make the cut in the perfect place) The rear bench seat slides back & forth to give more space between boot/passenger area. It also flips, tips & tilts in all directions to give more carrying space etc.... Later model Delica seatbelts are a straight/direct fit to the L300 belt mounts, so sourcing some of these will be dead easy and very cheap. I would reckon you could get a rear bench seat and both 3 point belts all in for around £70 max As for the middle seats (the captains seats) this will be more tricky because it will mean removing the plywood floor to expose the mounts for the seat runners, then cutting the ply floor panels to fit around them. Personally I wouldn't bother - fitting a rear bench seat will give you a 5 seater anyway with large rear boot behind the bench and MASSIVE carrying capacity in the middle. If you are looking for carrying 7 people you might be better off looking for a 'standard' Delica with all the seats already fitted - otherwise you're kinda defeating the object of what this van was was created for..... 3) Can't answer that one I'm afraid! I know its not a great example, but here is a pic of my mate in the back of this very vehicle on our way to N Wales for a long weekend of off-roading. You can see the amount of gear we packed in the 'boot' area behind him - but in front of him is more stuff than you'd fit into most cars! Fridge, gas BBQ, gas tanks, LOADS of off-road recovery kit, tents, bedding, tools etc....We were carrying all the kit for three of us plus most of the kit from the guys in one of the other cars. Plus ALL the recovery gear....and there was still plenty of room for him to stretch out fully and enough space left to carry two more people. We weren't even anywhere near fully loaded either! You couldn't carry this much kit in something even as big as a LWB Pajero and still have room to carry passengers....let alone give them room to strech out fully! Delica's are awesome! (but I guess you knew I'd say that ;D )

Count Panda, I didn't realise it was an auto, if it was a manual I't would be exactly what I want so I'm still thinking at the moment because its still a wicked looking ride... Bruce, thank you! (and its getting embarasing that you have more pics of my car than I do!) Dan

Yup, spazmatic 3spd Ford 2.8 transplant is do-able though. Although not as slow as you'd expect! 41st out of 55, would have done better if I'd properly ragged it!
