Yeah... I'm just asking a little question about the Mk1 Granada and the same vintage Consul... I hope that's allowed...
I can't recall that I have seen many of them in the project threads? If any? So, is there any owners of those cars on this forum at all? Pics? Are they popular at all among the UK car modifying "scene" or are they stone dead there? Or have they completely disappeared from the UK roads? And how about "back in the days", were they any modified Consuls/Granadas back then?
I'm just asking because I don't know how it is in the UK, I'm Swedish, and because I've always liked them in some kind of way... Looking very big and luxurious for being Fords, yet elegant...

reasonably popular amongst older modders, bigger heavier cars i guess so not cheap enough to run for the younguns, hard to find bargainous mk1's these days, the banger tracks claimed an awfull lot of what would be todays barn finds and cheap fixer uppers.
I love em, was running them as cheapo cars back in the 80's.

The good ones tend to be restored rather than modified these days.

I'd rather like one, but as said prices, insurance and running costs sort of factor me out of the equation....

I'd love one of these, I think they look fantastic. The only ones I sem to see now at the local shows are the apparently 'rare' coupe (which I don't actualy like) and the odd Estate.
Then there's the infamous story of the Practical Classics mint condition one that got nicked but lets not open that one again.

the black one was known as big & nasty when in its old colour scheme. beleave the original V6 went in to a fiat 126 known as little & nasty.

I love the way some of the coupes have a straight shoulder line (UK ones?): and some have coke-bottle curves:

were the 2 door saloon type ones sold in the uk? I've never actually seen one in the metal and absolutely love them (especially the orange one above)

nope, some of the herses sold here were built from 2 door saloons, but only the 2 door coupe was available from dealers over here, shame as i think the 2 door saloon was the prettiest.

I like to think that Mazda took their inspiration from the mk1 granada for the 929/Luce.

I used to have 2 Mk1s back a few years ago ,they did rust out very quickly most met their end in the late eighties with many 3l v6 ones chewing up timing gears which meant they were uneconomical to repair I was offered a mint Royal 77 Ghia in 88 for £120 because the engine was shot ! It was squashed two days later ! Not many modded ones around ,the only recent one that springs to mind is the Cosworth V6 blue one thats doing the rounds Apparantly less than than 100 Mk1s are still taxed on the dvla
