saved these slides from the skip at a house clearance about a week ago, these are the car related slides from one man's lifetime collection of approx. 800 slides the majority are 7cm x 7cm glass slides, my scanner only caters for 35mm, so just over a quarter of the glass slide is scanned, you will notice some of the slides overlap, a couple still need to be vertically flipped. they have all been cropped, if anyone wants a complete uncropped copy of any of the scans; PM me. the larger slides are the earliest starting in about 1945 until mid 1960's, most are undated, but labelled with locations Carlisle Courts Coxwold Dalbeatie 1971 Dalston Show 1951 - I.D. the ice cream van Warkworth Dover castle (castle was on the hill in the background) this slide is in 2 parts - note the parked black vans, and 2 red - post office vans perhaps

Nice find, some good atmosphere going on with some of them. Amazes me how 'quiet' it looks in the London pics.

London 'The Angle" Can you see that road name on the bare brick wall on the alleyway in the high res version? Would love to figure out where this is but the sign is confusing. A junction of the A1 and a "Ring road"? This one is also Trafalgar Square from the bottom edge, Nelson's Column off to the right. Love the Kings Cross ones for the complete lack of traffic lights!

Seth: you cant read the whole sign, but its something (4 letters) Mews - is The Angle, or maybe the Angel, a theatre - on the right of the Palmer & Harvey tobacco building here is the other half of the scan

Aha! Might have found it! Angel is the right area for the A1, so a quick look on Multimap and there's a junction between what is now the A501 (quite like a ring road round Clerkenwell) and the A1 with a small turning called "Angel Mews" just before. Only a few hundred yards from Kings Cross too so could have been taken at the same time as those.

are these the teenagers that civilised adults were afraid of in the 50's and 60's? ;D and lastly, a print, (from a terrible negative), showing the man himself - proudly standing with his bus - He ran a local bus service, and a garage for many years. I have the paperwork for the purchase of the chassis, and some company paperwork from the 1920's. onwards

Seth, have a look here.: There's a building on the end with a curved roof over the entrance, I think it's the curve you can see just at the end of this: And if you turn around in Streetview, there's a large sign behind displaying the number 14 outside one of the buildings, as you can see on the corner of the building in the first one. And the road sign says basically the same thing! So yes, I think you found it, but it couldn't look much more different now

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

That is an astonishing amount of change! Just to contrast (and sorry, no cars in the pic) Mike gave me this one of the Morisson Colliery Band marching down Durham Road in Annfield Plain (cos thats right on my patch, lol) and it hasn't changed... at all. I'll get a modern pic from the same viewpoint tomorrow ;D Edit pic was shot before Autofive or I were born
