I'm not sure myself if this is retro/modern/post retro/pre modern/plain boring curse word ;D You can decide.... I sold my boring yet pretty funky looking... ...405 turbo derv in-a-state and bought this... It is a 1994 Saab 9000 CD. Thats all it says on the car! No turbo badges, no GLI, XSI, GTE, WKD badges to suggest anything... Just a 9000CD. It's a 2 litre turbo, originally a LPT (low pressure turbo) which would of had 150hp and of been pretty mundane. Luckily for me Saab redculously over engineered these cars meaning with more or less nothing but an ECU remap, which can be done for free from your home PC! It has about 250hp! It's a brute of a car being both huge inside and out. Leather seats that are heated and electrically adjusted! Air con, electric windows throughout, electric/heated mirrors and a real feel of solidity. A car of this size has no right to be so rapid! I have a G-tech pro 0-60 timer. With a powerful FWD car you need to do about 5 runs to get the launch right. I have no idea how to get this thing off the line in a hurry but after just 1 attempt I got a 7.1 to 60mph. A few more attempts would of certainly see the time drop an easy 0.5 of a second. And the price I bought it for... £400.00p A true sleeper Ad

I'm jealous! Really want to get a 9000 at some point, and then probably (fail trying) put the engine into a RWD car.

My dad has 2 9000's and they're extremely good cars.
His first is a '95 CDE that he got ages ago to replace his Carlton estate. This has got a performance chip as well as some other things I think, about 230bhp and goes like stink. Pretty much completely standard though so a real sleeper, he's scared many a boy racer.
His second which he won by a chance bid on ebay last year for the grand sum of £400, is a '96, I think the aero...will have to check. But it's the 2.3 full turbo auto. Not quite so rapid or fun, yet at 200bhp standard, still plenty quick enough. Although the auto obviously means performance upgrades are difficult.
Mightymite, how are you finding the clutch on your remapped CD? The CDE's clutch slips like mad with that much power if you put it all down, although knowing my dad it probably needs a new clutch anyway. And then there are the g'boxes, can take a little more power but when you start getting towards 300bhp apparently they really don't like it, and getting one to take the power will cost ££££'s if I remember correctly.
Have fun embarresing people ;D

Funny you should ask about clutch and gear boxs ;D I was told by the last owner, be careful with the gear box, don't spin in the lower gears, it will kill it. So what did I do... Spun it in 1st and 2nd which resulted in a mahoooosive oil leak! If I slowed down below 20mph it left a snail trail behind it! I thought there was no point in topping the oil up and set about sourcing another box. Before I had a chance to get the box 3rd gear started whining. Then the following day, last monday, it died Was doing 70mph passed a lorry flat out in 5th when... BANG! The car jolted heavily, the speedo dropped to 0 and the car was out of gear. The clutch pedal was solid and wouldnt go in to gear. Couldn't really work out what had happend but it all became apparant when changing the box. Got the thing apart on Friday to be met with this... That will be a clean sheer in a drive shaft! A clutch with no pressure on the spring... ...and bits of metal and friction material hanging out! Got the clutch cover off... The box spins in neutral but is locked solid in gear. So I'm figuring the engine was doing 3000rpm at what, the wheels were doing 70mph when the gear box locked solid. Engine killed the clutch and the wheels killed the easiest drive shaft. Got it all back together now though. What a piece of pi55 to work on! The subframe hinges halfway along allowing it to be dropped out the way of the box! How clever is that! Think I shall be taking it easier on the box from now on ;D Doesn't rule out more power though

Got some more pics of the car yesterday. What colour do you think the wheels should go? I'm thinking of a darker grey, almost anthracite. I'm also thinking about tinting the back lights ever so slightly and fitting some clear/smoked front indicators. I'm having trouble finding the indicators, does anybody know if tinting them would work? Or would they just look like dark orange and not work very well as indicators

Love the wheel job. I see you've gone for a 9000 Carlsson feel. They had anthracite centers with polished lips, and were 16".
My unit mate teH Scottish Andy loves his Saabs and I shall tell him you've blown the 'box up, he will laugh ;D

I think that side repeaters off the Astra Mk4 > will fit the 9000. They certainly fitted my 900s with no problems.
