Here is my new toy to keep me retro happy whilst the Datsun is off the road. Not really that old but definately not a common sight. Plans are minimal....but will include painting matt black (well I have plenty of paint left from the Datsun so why the hell not ;D) and maybe lower slightly and alloys if I can find a cheap and cheerful set with tyres. Stance and wheels as they say ! What I do need if anyone has a stash are side mirrors (both smashed) and a drivers side front indicator lens (was driven into a bush by previous). and if you do have a tatty sets of alloys that will fit drop me a line.

excellent we had one of these as our work van for a fair few miles, bought it with knackered diesel so we sunk in the mg 8v 2.0 injection engine went like the clappers, if your going to lower it don't just cut springs down as it made it handle soooooooooo badly bouncey and most of the time all over the road made it quite a handle to keep round some of the bends sometimes lol

nice one! .... cheers for the advice. i've been told the back is easy with lowering blocks but i wasn't sure about the front ... maybe uprated springs ? but to be honest this is a cheap bit of fun that could become expensive if i started messing about too much with it. Still it got treated to new oil and new oil and air filters tonight! Gotta do the fuel filter too at some point.

Front springs can be cut down and is totally safe.. Alloys from the rover 600/800 series are the only thing that fit the stud pattern,i believe. Front studs are the same maestro/montego set up,but not the rears. Rear spring as said, can be lowered using blocks,or heating springs, and bending up. Get over to "triple-m" or "maestro.org",for some cheap bits, and plenty of useful info, and tell them malpas sent you.... ;D ;D

for manufacture, 1995 IIRC. However, the Bulgarian saga means there is at least one knocking about on a 51 plate.

Alloys from the rover 600/800 series are the only thing that fit the stud pattern,i believe. The pcd is 4x114.3 isn't it? Loads of cool wheels about with that pcd. Be nice to see some Turbovecs or Compomotive CXs on this.

We used to have one of these when I was an apprentice. They came from the manufacturer in white primer, ready to be liveried up. My company was so stingy they just left it in primer, so every time it rained there was a white residue on the ground.

When I was at uni, I did a placement with Land Rover at Gaydon. At the time they were doing the final development for the Freelander. All of their test mules were freelander floorpans under Maestro van bodies and they looked bloody brilliant! Always fancied doing my own at some point......

Front springs can be cut down and is totally safe.. i didnt say that its not safe or cant be done, but rather i have done it and it makes the van handle so badly that i don't recommend it. after the springs have been cut i dare say trying to find an original set will be difficult to return driving to normal, id find some uprated springs, or see what else might fit the hole. as for wheels i seem to remember we tryed on some dihatsu alloys at one point at they fitted well??? cant quite remember tho we had all the mg interior in ours aswell-dashboard trims the bigger seats everything it was all direct swap no modding needed.
