OK, this is starting to grind my gears now, as they'd say.
I've had the Rover off the road for the past two days now - partly because I haven't been here and partly because it doesn't drive anymore.
Firstly what happened was that on a drive through town it started missing, then would just die. Leave it a moment and it'd fire up and limp along, then get worse, then stall out again.
I removed the fuel filter to find it full of old pink jelly stuff - what I presume is congealed fuel?
I renewed the filter, blew through the lines, tried another filter as well but it still won't run right. I then pulled the float chambers and found the needles dirty, more pink stuff, so cleaned those off too and reset the carbs to basic settings as they were quite out of whack (one bank lean, one rich). Cleaned all the plugs, checked the gaps and points too.
Now, when I run it, the engine will hit and miss, die and recover, backfire and if you give it any gas it'll just stall out - when it's colder you can rev it up and hold it but it'll still die and fall out randomly. It will randomly idle well now and then but that's about it.
Methinks this is either an electrical or fuel pump issue? Any advice?
I have to say it's really bumming me out at the moment as I got screwed switching over on insurance and can't go back - consequently I'm as near as makes no difference immobilised. Mind you, can sort something out on Monday but still....
