Hi Guys, Will be (hopefully) getting the keys to a new house soon, which requires alot of work. We are doing most work ourselves and wont be living there for 6 months, now to save money on Hiring Vans/Skips we have decided that we are going to buy a van until it's no longer required. What I need to know is, whats the cheapest/smallest van I can fit 8x4 sheets of wood/plasterboard in? We have about £700 to spend, would need long t&t. I have had a T4 before and that was plenty big enough, but they arent cheap. Any help would be great guys Cheers Joe

Hyundai H100 LWB
Pick them up cheap, very reliable and certainly good on interior space.
Maybe not retro, but certainly a good workhorse.

It would have to be a transit circa 2000, cheap, plentiful parts about and cheap, cheap too!

Try looking for a Fiat fiorino, as it drives just like a car, but has a large load space, and they are dirt cheap (ours cost around the £500 mark).

Bedford Midi's are great ... if a little bouncy.
Had a really bad experience with one once - urgent trip to the bottom end of Strangford Lough from Belfast with 4 x 5l 2-pack paint, 3 wings and some headlights. Doing 70-ish I hit a large bump and the thing lurched all over.
Fortunately nothing got smashed.
But I'd still recommend them. Good fun, if a bit noisy.

Get another T4 , you can pick em up cheap if you are lucky and don't mind buying an early model . My mate bought one off ebay a few months ago for £400 , it was tatty but ran really well .

You've been telling me you were a genius since you were seventeen ... in all the time I've known you I still don't know what you mean !

Get a full size US pickup, the beds are (apparently) designed to get 8x4s flat. Pickups are also nicer to drive, you can see everything, and easier to load/unload with waste.
Though yer stuff will get wet if its persisting and they don't make very secure sheds.

problem with loading up a pickup is you have to tie it down... vans you just chuck it in and pile it up.... surely makes it easier? not to mention vans are cheaper and more pletifull this side of the pond
