 found a little touch of rust this weekend when i made a start on the floor!!   found there were 2 floor pans on top of each other and a sill fitted over a old one too all rusted through |

Agh! Undoing badly repaired bits is my least favourite job! I think good body repairs were hard to come by in the 70's and 80's - seems that bodging panels over grot was perfectly acceptable back then! Good on you for tearing into it, it'll be worth it!  |

U've just made me feel a whole lot better about what i saw when i lifted the carpets out the saff! Glad u're doing it good tho!

strange thing is they actually cut a complete floor pan in half to patch over the old one the heel board was patched twice,once below and one on top the sill was also a replacement one cut in half and welded straight on top and joined up by the b post worst bit is all the nasty black tar based sealer that flicks all over you and sticks everywhere when it gets hot as your cutting the panel havent got to the heel board or the other side floor yet !  |

Zeibart is used to treat inside cavities (like doors,valences,tailgates etc, doesn't do much for floors) I reckon without the treatment you could pull the back window out complete with rubber, and the bottom 12" of door wouldn't be there  |

i remember my dads old mk2 escort had one of those yellow zeibart stickers in the window, always thought it was ironic that it was the tinworm that killed that back in 1993.

Wasn't the infamous fall of Ziebart's reputation all down to them treating cars that were so badly made they were rotting from the inside out from the factory?

I hate repairing bodged previous repairs. Repairing rusty OEM metal is lovely, but trying to recreate the shape of something the previous bodger made from a fag packet and some P38 isn't my idea of fun.
