Well I’m in much the same position as many of you out there and struggling to find work [whether doing what I’m qualified to do or anything that may be available]. This means a serious rethink of future plans, especially the next six months, and what I can afford to offload without emptying my life of everything petrol related.
So it with a heavy heart that I put my mk1 fiesta project up for sale. It's been sat in my dry garage since September of last year as the intention was always to cvh it with a hot little number I’ve spent my evenings putting together. As such there’s the car ad here and a separate parts for sale ad in the relevant forum.
A little information about the car.
I bought the car locally last year, and had a summer of fun driving it round and about with very little done bar remove most of the weight from the interior and give it a self service. [The removed interior is in great condition and was all dry stored in my garage. It can be reinstated to go with the car, or is available separately if the new owner doesn’t want it]. I also have a really tidy glovebox spec dash that is sat in the garage with only storage marks on it, and could go with the car if the right money is agreed on for the sale of the car. There are boot boards and carpets as well.
The car is an 1100 non sunroof model and as you can see from the pictures the exterior has been [depending on you viewpoint] treated to an supersport package of graphics and trim. The rear bumper is on, and I have the front although it needs one of the brackets [supplied] welding back on. The car was originally sat on a set of relatively poor condition pepperpots, but a weekend of repair last year and they have come back up really tidy, and have been treated to some rubber with plenty of life left in it [done about 1000miles since fitting them].
The car squats over these wheels on lowered Gmax suspension with no knocking or bumping, and gives the car a great planted ride. I've fitted an xr2 anti-roll bar along with xr2 brakes, braided brake lines and green stuff pads. These pulled up straight and true, but the car has been sat for a few months now and I guess they would need looking at as a matter of course before putting the car back on the road.
I laid the car up to fiddle with the engine, and as such there's bits in there that haven't even driven a mile in anger. I fitted bestek electronic ignition along with new tappets, all new gaskets and seals, a new battery and HT leads and an ashley sports exhaust from manifold back [not the manifold itself]. The carb has been stripped, re built and is waiting for me to refit it. I've fitted new plugs and fully flushed and replaced the fluids in the cooling and oil systems.
The car has had a clifford alarm professionally installed, and a push button start by the previous owner . As I hope you can see from the photos, the interior is in good shape and as for bodywork issues...well it's a car from 1983, what do you expect?! There are some patches of surface bubbling [shown in pictures] but nothing structural and nothing that goes deeper that the paint. There is rust under the battery tray [common] but again, this hasn't gone through and is a simple enough job to rectify. Elsewhere the paintwork is in good condition and stands up to scrutiny on door closures, panel edges and floors.
All in all, it's an honest and fun little car, with the sports exhaust making a noise like Thor sneezing when you put down your right foot so encourages plenty of sun in the sky, windows down driving. Gear change is tight, the cabin rattles in the right places for one of these and it is ripe for someone to cherish or turn into a proper little pocket rocket. Unfortunately time and finances make this unlikely to be me.
I've an assortment of spares for this in the garage [instrument binnacles, rear lights, bulbs, fuses and stuff that lurks deep in cardboard boxes] that I'll have a root through for the new owner.
So that's the car, and hopefully there's someone out there to appreciate it. I've no history for it, apart from the fact that it's clean and not been nicked/written off/is the outstanding evidence in a murder investigation. The car is currently SORN'd and sat in the garage but I can roll it out for any prospective buyers, and can get more specific images if asked. I'll field most relevant questions, but won't take a packet of doritos and a drumstick lolly for it. Finances are the issue for me here so please don't be offended if I won't entertain your offers of swaps, but don't let that put you off as if something interesting cropped up then my right arm twists pretty far!
The price is £750ono, but take into account the fact that it has some fairly decent upgrades on it, with scope for further development and I'd hope this looks a good toy for someone with some time and space.
