My brother wants one. He's spotted a ready modified one on Piston Heads but it seems steep to me at £3k. This is the one. ![](http://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/1024/1024929-7.jpg) ![](http://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/1024/1024929-2.jpg) Sooooo i'm gonna try and convince him to get a stocker. What should we be looking out for when buying one? Do they suffer from any bad rust in areas? What about the mechanicals any curse word bits? Also how much are coilovers etc? Will Civic coilovers fit? And some semi-decent ones. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/halloweenkid7/frontdel.jpg) ![](http://www.winterink.nl/pictures/Downloads/Del_Sol.jpg) ![](http://gillet-felgen.de/felgen/bilder/bild/honda06.jpg) And a JDM'd Civic for added coolness. ![](http://tanetane92.web.infoseek.co.jp/IMG_85231.jpg) Cheers Matt

need a bit of work to umm, work really lol. usually the 1.5vti/vtaaaac engine, and pretty mush everything underneath is a crx, which in turn is a EG (correct if I'm wrong) civic.
Don't know a huge pile about them though tbh, but a couple of mates are pretty clued up on hondas and thats what I've weaned

can't you convince him to get a PROPER crx like ![](http://gillet-felgen.de/felgen/bilder/bild/honda06.jpg) ...rather than a Del Salon? ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

The primary thing to look out for is rust. The mainly go around the rear arches and sills so have a good prod around there. The plastic cogs on the electric sunroof mech (if its got one) fail but its not an expensive job. Avoid curse word bodykits (other than the mugen one which is quite sought after) and anything that is too tatty. Theres plenty of choice out there so you can afford to be choosy. Check for smokiness from the exhaust under load, could be valve stem seals or rings. Syncro's can go too. Nothing a bit of careful changing or double declutching cant fix though. Really thats it. They have mostly bullet proof mechanicals and reasonable build quality. As said above lots of mechanical parts interchangeable with the EF and EG civic, the Mk2 Rex and the DC2 integra. Personally I would buy an Mk2 or an MX5 rather than the Delsol but thats your preference. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) P.S. Look out for the Clairol special edition.

get a real crx (mk2 ^^^) or mk1.
del slows are not for real men.
if he must then the b16 engine (found in the SiR which is JDM, don't think it came in the uk cars) is the best in terms of power, tuning, reliability etc, electric roof looks good but is heavy and costly when goes wrong. rust in the rear arches and then the sills like most hondas of that sort of age.
he will be mocked mercilessly by those that know better tho, hairdresser jokes are very applicable to this car.
definately mk2 crx ftw

Well black ones with tasty rims like ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v665/halloweenkid7/frontdel.jpg) do hide the hair dresserness, but the Mk2 CRX is a better car but does suffer from rust. But for 3 grand you should be able to get a mint 16v, or even a near mint VTEC and either of those will be infiately better than a de sol. Better to drive, faster, more practical, cheaper to run etc etc and you won't look like a hairdresser. Of course if your bro really wants the wind in his hair either he should buy an MX5 (again 3 grand would get a lovely modded mk1) or he is a hair dresser and this is the perfect car ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) just kidding ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

They might be a bit haridresser-ish, but you can't deny the electric roof versions are cool.

No, you're right there ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Shame the bloke bloke in the vid looks like a raving..... hairdresser! There's one of these in a garden on my route home. Been there for ages, might stick a card through the door myself! Personally, I quite like em!

Ask Davemk1gti on here - he has/had one and did a fair bit of work on it
anad apparently the non-electdic roof versions are best, as they have decent boot space

Shame the bloke bloke in the vid looks like a raving..... hairdresser! So true, lol. I'm quite unfair to these cars. I think my problem is I've always loved the Mk1's and when they released these and put a CRX badge on them I took it as a personal insult. If this was just called a Honda Del Sol I wouldn't hate them. I'd just say something along the lines of "not for me really". I'm a bit odd like that.

I have stock one and its a B16 engined Uk VTI model same as the SiR imports have.
I'm not a hair dressser nor do I feel the need to have manicures or facials.
In short rust in the rear, and the trailing arm bushes wear out and give a shakey ride.
I have a manual lift out roof for top down driving which is very easy and quick to remove, and the good bit about that is the boot space is considerable.
Imports seem to go for more money than the UK models but 3k should see you about right on a 'good one'........
personally I prefer them looking stockish as they can look very 'MAX POWER' esque with rimz and springz
My one which is driven by the missus in the summer is a stock paradise green uk Model VTI DOHC VTEC 160bhp model.
It goes round castle coombe circuit very well although the brakes don't stand upto that sort of abuse.
parts are cheap for modifications, I would put a decent manifold on and a nice exhaust system, suspension setup and poly bush it with better brakes and it should be a barrel of laughs.
