A you do. I wondered what a 740 estate would look like giver the american Landau hearse treatment. A quick rough and ready potatochip gives me. Very rough but I think you get the idea. Weld up the boot windows, get a vinyl roof and make landau bar detail. Need something done with the bumpers and mirrors, and could potentially look nicer than a real 740 hearse, and like a scaled down american one. Opinions?

Think the black needs to extend further forward into the back door window. Maybe weld up the back doors as well? Would look good though I reckon.

I was aiming for something like Keeping the vinyl roof and the 5 door rather than 3 hearse body, with Satin or Matt paint (I could roller that). European hearses tend to be 3 door models. US hearses tend to be based on 5 door configuration sometimes allowing for a side loader use, instead of needing to use the rear door/gate. But they are bloody huge. I want to make a slightly (Volvos are still big) smaller version in US hearse style. Got some choices then. Either manual, turbo petrol, then when the traffic pulls over to let me through nail it. or Auto turbo diesel. A hearse style car not running on dead animals, instead running on recycled chippy oil, with a little extra boost for fun.

There appears to have been at least one coachbuilt version made on an extended chassis.

I did this in paint. You could either slightly modify the rear door, or just make a piece of MDF covered in the same vinly and stick it to the rear door ;D

just buy a hearse, it'll look a million times better and wont cost much more by the time you've bought all the extra bits and done the work.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Pah! Since when has cost come in to anything we do?!
I reckon it could do with a taller roofline myself. A fake roof extension would do the trick.

Oh now there is an idea. Make a fake bolt on glassfibre roof that also covers the rear windows. Bit like the high roof van extensions they like making boats out of on Scrap Heap Challenge
You would just need to fasten to the body, seal it and panel over the inside with deep buttoned velvet. then vinyl cover that roof, or make it pre-vinyled.

It'd be different, thats for sure, why buy when you can make?
A local firm is using a 300c as a hearse, it's massive black and looks properly evil.

Are there any RHD turbo charged classic 5 door european hearses? Not turbo'd that I've seen, but you do get 5 door hearses over here - one coachbuilder did Mk1 Granada hearses as a 5-door, I've only ever seen 2 though, and both on the banger track. Likewise you can get Daimler DS420's in a 5-door configuration & probably a couple of others. I'll dig out some pics if you like?

There's a 5-door 740 hearse on the excellent classic hearse register's site - not seen one before! So, already exists in coachbuilt form - although not with the funny van-like back end of the US stuff! There's also a piccy of one of the 5-door mk1 grannys I previously mentioned, although technically speaking, it's a consul

Need to make contact with the owner and find out the details of the builder so I can hunt one down.
