First things first. this is my first project car. I have a 57 plate
Suzuki Swift some of you may have seen when I attended a RR gathering back in 2008. I attempted and failed by trying to retro it up by taking the hub caps off and sticking black electrical tape in a cross over the head lamps. Since then I have wanted a "Retro
Ride"
short term:
With the caddy I plan to start by taking out as much of the rust as I can. then wax oiling the under side. the bed is the worst for the rust, 2 big holes are in the bed as well as curse word load of scratches that have started to go rusty so I want to sort that out before any other work is started on her. at the date of writing she has done 222293 miles. and that's 222293 miles with very careful owners. she starts first time and runs very well, so I would like to keep her in a state where she can do many more miles. So a full service will be taking place soon, And a deep clean of the engine bay.
The interior again is in VERY good nick. every thing as far as I can tell was sold with with the truck back in 1990. all that needs sorting is: The choke, at the moment is just hanging down and getting in the way of my feet, so that's going to get mounted under the dash or something. And the switch to warm up the glow plugs is also just swinging down from under the dash. it came with shed loads of other stuff. like the lowering springs and shiny new front grill will be going on the caddy as soon as. I have no idea how low the springs go as it does not say, to be honest they car still wrapped up in the box they came in and I haven't looked
Long term:
Still have no idea what colour to paint it. I'm thinking Sky Blue or Primer gray. but that is subject to change.
I was thinking about checker plating the back bed to help preserve it. But. Now I'm thinking of putting decking down in the bed, so when I rock up to shows I have my own patio in the back of my truck, complete with patio chairs and a table. I have some water proof speakers for my old speed boat kicking about some place, they would mount on the side of the bed and a CD player mounted at the front of the bed. a roof rack will be going on, on this will be a small drinks fridge, a keg of some sort, and on the back, mounted will be 3 or 4 optics all designed so they can be easily removed and put away for safe keeping.
I saw a caddy painted bright yellow with a New York taxi sign on the roof. this is what, Inspired me to get a caddy if u like of a better way to put it.
there is also a caddy around Spalding with a logo on the side of each door. something with a spanner on.. but I think some type of logo on the side of each door is needed. like an really old industry like Gulf or something along those lines, or il make one up.
that's it for, for now. Welcome any suggestions or ideas. il be coming to the Retro rides Gathering in the caddy fingers crossed.
more pics are on the way!
