I spotted this 90 quattro last year parked on someones driveway a couple o' miles from me. I've always really fancied one of these after owning a lovely red 1985 facelift 80 Sport back in the mid 90's. Couldn't afford a quattro back then Anyway I doorknocked this one late last year a couple o' times but no one was in. After putting it off for a while (due to to many cars and other commitments) I tried again a couple o' weeks ago. This time the owner was in. A real nice bloke. Turns out he bought the car back in 2000ish and had 3 years trouble free motoring. Then one day whilst in Wales, he hit a dead deer in the road and popped the radiator. Luckily no other damage was suffered apart from a slightly bent lower front valance. Anyway a new rad was fitted and all seemed well. It was used for a while longer and then layed up because he thought the head gasket had gone.. That was back in 2003. The car has sat ouside ever since. It looks to have stood up well to 6 years outside although being very dirty and covered in mould/moss and all manner of other biological life. At first, he seemed very reluctant to part with it (prob why it's stayed there for so long) He's always had the intention of putting it right but it was never looking likely to happen any year soon. I made him a respectable offer. He said come back in a week or two whilst he pondered. Two days later, I went back with a battery for another chat! A deal was swiftly done and the 90 quattro was all mine!! We powered the car up and after a couple of attempts she fired into life!! Pics from the night of collection Resting place for 6 years On the trailer heading home!!!

Hi there mick, nice toy you have got yourself, on the 10 valve engine the 5th cylinder lifter is always noisy but normally comes and goes nothing to worry about, i have had 80000 mile cars do it and 220000 mile cars not do it, it's just what they do nothing to worry about though. For any help or advice try www.classic-audi.co.ukBryan

I'm thinking it'll need more than an oil change and a good run to sort it out. Prob will treat it to a new set of lifters whilst the head is off. I'm on the clasic audi forum already, cheers anyway!

lifters arnt expencive. buy a set! youll be doing the cambelt etc wont take any longer to bob the cam out..... good luck getting the front pulley off lol! cool buses these! i loved mine, but got fed up with the soft rolly handling. id like to have done a 5 stud s2 suspension conversion on it and a 20v turbo lump. but would have cost lots of money i didnt have back then... so i lost my mind and swapped it for a mk2 golf gtd........

Looks like a good base for an awsome project, so rare now. The NLA Audi parts problem makes the 20v turbo option such a great idea!

The 4WD and diff locks coupled with a huge dose of 20v turbo power is a recipe for huuuuuuuuge power sliding fun in these motors. Not to mention traction off the mark! No way would you ever wanna make one of these RWD only. And thats coming from someone who loves mucho power + RWD ;D Anyway, having got the car safely home late last Sunday night, I was up bright and early Monday to check out my new toy. As previously stated, she was very much covered in moss and muck. Was far worse than it looks in these pics. Interior just as it had been left 6 years ago Engine bay. Full of leaves and other nasty stuff under the scuttle So, I set to work with the pressure washer and TFR. It's a fairly high spec washer that I was using. It still took me well over an hour to shift all the grime and get it looking half decent. In the end, she came up not looking too bad. Engine bay less all the leaves etc Interior came up a treat. There's no wear at all on any of the seats or carpet. A proper pro valet and it really would be like new in there Couldn't resist a couple more of the outside Not too bad eh?! The paintwork looks to be all original although is looking a little tired. It may mop up ok but there are a few scabs and isolated areas needing attention. Would really benefit from a full re-paint to do the car justice. Also worth mentioning, She was 1st registered on 21/08/1985. I am the 5th owner from new. Not bad considering her age.. She has done 138,000 miles. She has absolute full service history. The book is stamped upto 98,000. From there on, every bill and reciept has been retained for EVERY job/service etc. Every MOT is present too. There are copies of all previous V5C's supplied by DVLA. The previous owner obtained these soon after accuiring the vehicle.

I remember seeing that on ebay. Looked a nice motor. What was it like as a trackday toy though? I took mine up the road today (only through 1st & 2nd)and it didn't seem to have much get up & go...
