I'm trying to get my head round designing a custom wiring loom for the mini. I have it all worked out on a bit of A4, but it looks a mess, so to clarify things and allow me to calculate the lengths of wire I need to order, I took the sensible (imo) option and started drawing it out life-size on the dining room floor. Its a tile floor, and the pen comes off easilly enough with a little rubbing alcohol - No problems, you would think..... The mrs came in as I was half-way though and went completely nuclear - I mean screaming, mental, bat-curse word insane. Slightly confused - after all, its MY house - I attempted to appease her, but I'm getting the cold shoulder and silent treatment. Ah well, at least I get peace and quiet to finish the job! Ah well, to make up for my relationsip breaking down, have some old-timer breakdowns I found...

i've had crankcases in the oven and god knows what in the sink, I built my 750 F1 in the living room and it spent 10 years in the dining room, I built a T250 in the bedroom, I stored 1/2 a P6 Rover in the kids bedrooms, I hang bits from the rafters in the dining room while the paint hardens and polish it while sat in the chair watching TV, I write tel numbers on the kitchen cubpoards, but.. I have yet to draw all over the floor But thats an idea....

Every now and then the elastic band of cute and endearing snaps. it is kind of cute, better than looking at p o r n or out grabbing new ladies or gambling etc etc etc. But it is a bit freaky reminds me of the man making mash potato mounds in Close Encounters, if I got the film right!

My missus had a fit when she saw I had used the inside of my shed door to clear out the nozzles of spray paints. I was like, "its on the inside of the shed and the door is pretty much always shut" she said "yeah but it looks a mess" I said "yeah but its on the inside!"

I'vfe found Its difficult to get true wiring lengths in 2D. I've drawn my loom using CAD (2D) colour coding common types of curcuits and labeling the wires using the Lucas colour codes but it could be done on paper - maybe bigger than A4 though! Also I remember reading a wiring how-to in a magazine years ago where it said there were two ways of doing it. Either starting with wires at each device and running them to the fuse board/whatever or go the other way with wires all attached were they come together and running them out to the various devices. I've done mine by the later method, attaching everything I can to the fuse/relay board and over-estimating lenghts then once things are together, offering it up to the car to get more accurate lengths. Measuring bits of the old loom might help too. Can't offer any help on the relationship though I'm afraid

on a more important note - did you get the mock-up completed yet?
when you start cutting the lengths of wire and taping them over the sketch, let me know.

Why not just use a painless wiring kit? Relatively easy to bolt in, didn't cost that much, saved a heap of time trying to figure out what I stuffed up. When I fitted it, I just ran the wires, tested it, then wrapped them in the car. Turned out really nice.

I think you need to modify this thread title though..... It's not the car that's causing dosmestic disharmony, it's the wife that's causing it Saying that, when I was at the parents I got away with motorbikes in bedrooms, engines in the kitchen etc., but I've never tried being that brave/foolish with the wife
