First picture looks like a Mini to me. Finned sump, lower engine steady and rubber cone suspension!

looks like an early mini/metro/allegro,,,,,,,A-series?

Yeah, not a metro tho, my guess is allegro. Except the beam axle, with the twin leading shoe brake, thats off something much older, and light commercial.

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

Actually, Its looking more like an ADO16 1100 to me. Look at the brake caliper - its the silly sliding affair with the wedge shaped pads. Nothing else I know of had those calipers. Plus the trailing arm and hub are dead ringers. Add an A series, hydrolastic and rampant rot, it cant really be anything else.

Definitely not a Mini - the crease in the bumper is all wrong. There's a similar wreck in a forest near me, I'll try and grab some photos at some point.
Does this seem slightly macabre to anyone else?

That engine and suspension looks to be mounted on a subframe, allegros don't have subframes, neither do princesses or maxis. Did 1100s have them?

The beam axle doesn't look quite right for a tranny, not sure why, the brake cyls don't look quite right, but I am more used to seeing the TW than the single wheel. The bumper isn't transit either, not enough bolt holes,
