So I've just had a call from the AA (bless em! ) who have stopped my insurance because they can't find someone to cover the Merc as it's been lowered! (Serves me right for being honest! ) The reason apparently is because of the low value of the car! (1K) Now this seems a little bit daft to say the least but to avoid this ending up in the whinge bin who does everyone insure their cars with? And a pic........ OOooofffffff

I'm also wanting an answer to this as I'll need to insure the Cortina on a classic 2nd car policy this year. Lancaster quoted me £1.3k!!!
I can get it insured for £600 through a mainstream insurer but I still thought that was pricey!

I just let Adrian Flux renew my cover with them (no time to ring round for alternatives) and I'm regretting it already. They've sent me a form asking for the details of who modified my car and their qualifications - and if they aren't happy I will have to pay an undetermined fee for their engineer to inspect it.
I've never had that before and I've always had modified cars, Lancaster weren't even that bothered when I had an engine transplant.

I'm with Adrian Flux and have always been very happy with the service. I have ever mod listed and covered on a like for like basis, agreed value etc. Spoke to them today about putting my new cage/harnesses and high-lift rocker gear on and they said the policy won't go up! Ace.

Heritage - www.heritage-quote.co.uk/When I was 25 (couple of years ago) they covered me on a '74 BMW 2002 Touring with cage, buckets etc (actually, nothing on the car was standard) for about £300.

The reason apparently is because of the low value of the car! Uh huh! I got this response when I rang around for my Datsun. I remember one company quoted me over a grand and explained it was that high because the car was only worth £200. I asked for a further explanation and the cheeky sod actually said that I was unlikely to take good care of it. He got an absolute bollocking from me I can tell you. Obviously people who can only afford a £200 car can afford to pay more for their insurance. It's the same as having a second job - you get taxed SO MUCH if you have two jobs - obviously people that need to work 65 hours a week on minimum wage can afford to be taxed at a far higher rate than everyone else. /rant at the way poorer people get treated I got my Datto covered by Lancaster, I think it was about £400 which isn't bad considering I was 20 with 0NCB when I bought it. My Corolla is about £400 with City, I'm 21 now and they accepted my on-and-off cover with Lancaster for various cars as NCB, even though Lancaster themselves refused to take it into account. (and they rounded it up to two years too) Who's good for under 25s?

My age counts aggainst me as I imagine it will with others. Footman James Say no under 25's They will insure under 25s. I have been insured with them since I was 17, starting at £600odd, now down to my last renewal (when I was 19) being £270 for the year, including euro breakdown cover. For my dad on my car, on his own, would be £96 fully comp including euro breakdown cover They won't cover me on my van though, only my car.

Grizz Mobile insured, comprehensively, including Premium homestart recovery, and 2 months European insurance and recovery. Also £75.00 excess on windscreen replacement.... do they know windscreens do not exist ?
Total, on 3000 miles yearly, parked on drive = £151.00
